Whilst I applaud the mission to get Bin Laden and the obviously great job done by the military, I found the pictures of the crowd chanting outside the White House last night a little disturbing. It completely reminded me of the sort of scenes we see from the Middle East which are shown here as an example of crazy zealots. I wonder what the Middle East think of the crowd outside the White House - looked like the same kind of thing to me.

Yeah I was a little surprised at that as well...Not the reaction I'd expected, but I guess I never thought about what to expect.

Yeah, I agree. While it's good that we got him, it really isn't that meaningful in the big picture. He hasn't been in control for 5 years. There will likely be increased efforts at retaliation. People like those at the White House probably think "Great, we got him, we're done now, bring all our troops home." Nothing could be farther from the truth. But it does show the enemy that we are capable of sticking to something and achieving a goal.

And he called Clinton as well. I can't believe we got him but yes, Pakistan knew EXACTLY where he was, so they're not a true-ally so to speak. As for our military, they're like a dog with a bone....they just won't let go :) 10+yrs later though, but still now the war continues.

Of course not......nothing at all political about the killing of a political enemy.

Huh? He was the enemy of the state, and of course not just this country. He was a murderer on a mass scale; that makes him a criminal at the least.

Please explain, Georgie.

The American Revolutionary Army would be considered by some to be terrorists in 1776. Plenty of people around the world would consider Al Qaida and UBL to be "Freedom Fighters". In a non-political world, you can not judge. If you deny the existence of good and evil, then you can't selectively choose to call somebody a criminal without trial because it suits you. And I guess 5 others were killed in the compound. They were known mass-murderers and criminals too? After what trial? And the death penalty? I thought that was always wrong?

There is no escaping politics. You can't even breathe without being a carbon emitter.

Come on Steve, you know the context under which "political" is being implied here.

As to your point Sadam was tried and sentenced because it was possible. We would love to do the same for this nut job, but you know he and his mob are not going to throw their hands up and surrender and I certainly welcome any method to accomplish the mission without further loss of "American" life.

this was definitely for the best..

if he had been captured alive, we'd have the problem of putting him through trial, giving him the spotlight, figuring out where to bury him (he sure as hell wasn't gonna be buried on US soil)..

so, in the words of my generation: BOOM! headshot!.. :gpower:
