Those are great! Our Engineering Editor, who's deeply involved with hybrids, hadn't seen the Prius slot-car video. Hilarious! Production value was pretty good....funded by a rival automaker, perhaps?

WEIRD ... almost the exact same commercial, but for RENAULT ?! Is there a link between Renault and Nissan? There must be a connection. :?

The differences between the French ad and the US ad are actually pretty startling.

We had a volt and a leaf for a week of testing. Unimpressed by both. While the leaf could work as my daily driver( average 26 miles a day) the one we tested went dead in 38 miles. When they picked up the volt from Santa Clarita, it depleted the battery after 29 miles on the highway. Granted the 14 is all uphill to Palmdale, but was expecting better.

You wouldn't need a tow. Just a quick charge.
I think it will be like a gallon of gas you get during roadside.
However, 1 gallon of gas can get an ICE pretty far though.

What's the definition of "quick"? Tow trucks will have to start having huge generators on the back to pump out 220v. And entertainment systems inside and extended cab to keep you busy while it charges.

AAA has already thought of it
http://www.earthtechling.com/2011/05/mo ... elp-debut/

Nissan is picking up the towing for now
the one (leaf) we tested went dead in 38 miles
you had to be pushing it really hard to get it to loose a full charge in 38 miles
60 miles is do-able without trying
