OBD11 Code readers

Post by Steve Towers »

I apologize if I'm resurrecting a previous subject, but I'd like to hear about folks' experience with code readers. On the Corvette I can read the codes on the driver information channel (DIC) but it's very limited as to what the code(s) pertain to. I've downloaded the code list speciific to my car but I don't know if more thorough info is available using high end readers.

I''m asking because my DIC and dash are lit up like a christmas tree. I suspect battery degredation but no way to be sure.

I just read the code and take it to the internet. I really only use the reader to clear codes.

Well.....I replaced the battery and cleared all the codes (15-20 of them). Within 1 mile the dash lit up like a christmas tree so after alot of nasty words I took it to the local stealership. Just got the diagnosis - "a wire harness in the drivers side door has a short and the door lock interlok has failed". Translation: For about 1k and a couple of days you can have your car back.
