Opinions wated on buying a black truck

Post by Bill Schenker »

I've never had a black car, though my wife does. What's people's opinion on buying a new black truck; in this case a Ram 3500 dually? Am I crazy? It's a very good price (the best in the country I think) and is optioned just the way I want it. Too much trouble to keep it good looking? It will live outside.

AS the owner of a black car and truck a california duster will become your favorite tool for removing the daily dust.
a quick pass is all it takes to bring the shine back.

My old black mustang was never as bad as people say, and our new Darth Vader Minivan has been fine. Get a California Car duster! And while you're giving Jim DeFrank your money, order a custom California Car Cover. The make them for Ram Duallies, even Mega Cabs, exact fit. Perfect for trucks that are stored outside and not used daily. Keeps the interior fresher too.

All great comments, thanks! And yes Georgie; I'll be oozing manliness with this truck!

Really shows on a BLACK truck. Eats right thru the paint. Might want to opt for the dealer installed Contain-My-Oozz Heavy Duty clear coat. ;)

From my experience,
Black vehicles, just like white, always looks clean from a distance (even when really dirty), and always looks dirty up close (as your paying the car wash guy).
They do get MUCH warmer inside than lighter colored vehicles, and take longer to cool off. If you live really close to the beach, this might be a good thing, not so good if your at your storage lot in Azusa.
Your A/C will work harder and longer.

...and most importantly, DO NOT LEAN AGAINST THE CAR, or put your hands on painted surfaces if don't want to leave a layer of skin behind it it's over 85 deg outside.

On the positive side, most cars look more muscular, and or sporty when painted black, even when sitting beside an identically equipped vehicle in another color.
