The modifications we are considering are Intake, Intercooler and exhaust with minor suspension upgrades such as bushings and springs with upgraded tire size. Will any of these bolt on modifications put the car in a higher class and if so what other modifications would be beneficial if we end up in a higher class so we can be competitive and still keep the car primarily in stock trim? Also, I am considering putting my Saleen S302E into the CAM class. It is my understanding that the CAM class allows almost all modifications except wheel base and tread wear tires of 200 or greater is this correct?
Welcome
'16 Mustang - each of your Mod's listed would likely knock you out of stock; or in SCCA parlance "Street"...
This list is over simplified, but in Street you can only do the following "Mods" from your list:
Intake: Air Element in stock box
Exhaust: Cat back
Suspension: Shocks, no more than two way adjustable
Wheels +/- 1" diameter on stock width
Intercooler, Bushings, and Springs would not be allowed to be modified and remain in street. each of these modifications would land you someplace different in Official SCCA classes. The intercooler I believe would would send you straight to Modified... where you can gut the car. Due to this, answering the second question is a little problematic.
IMHO if he is only 16... keep the car Bone Stock for a year or more until he has mastered it.
