SCCA rule: "If using a suction-cup type of mount, you must have a secondary tether securing the camera in case the mount becomes loose."
Does anyone in this club use a single suction camera mount, or is this ruling strictly enforced? If not strictly enforced, is it okaay to use single suction cup on outside of car, or do you highly not recommend it?

It's not something I've ever seen called out before. As long as it's secure we are ok with it (I've used a gopro suction mount on the outside of my car before and had no problems).

Re: Suction Camera Mount
As long as it's a full sized suction mount I'm sure it's fine. This rule was probably from pre gopro days.

If you car is metal and not aluminum or plastic, this works great. Way stronger than a suction cup.

Everybody runs single suction cups with gopros outside the car. You will be fine.Brian Ernst wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 5:15 pm SCCA rule: "If using a suction-cup type of mount, you must have a secondary tether securing the camera in case the mount becomes loose."

While I seem to remember that, where did you find that quote? All I could find in the current 2019 Solo Rules is:
"Any cameras, if installed, must be securely mounted to withstand loads from driving maneuvers. The camera may be installed either inside or on the outside of the car. In either case, its mounting method and position must not interfere with driving or pose an additional hazard to driver, passenger, or course workers."

Thank you for the idea!! I bought a cheaper RAM mount magnet, I wasn't sure if it would hold, but it worked perfectly! Thanks. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HFDNPIE/re ... Ah, OK, Targa Rules. Each type of SCCA competition has it's own set of rules. This is the one for Autocross: https://www.scca.com/pages/solo-cars-and-rulesBrian Ernst wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 9:09 pmI found it here: https://www.scca.com/pages/rules-and-regulations
