Abarth specialness...

Post by Mike Simanyi »

Our own Karl Asseily is getting one of these beauties. The regular version looks very cool to me. This one is a limited edition - only 10 are being made! - with special paint, upgraded exhaust and much nicer seats. Nice score Karl!

So, the more they blow stuff up in Lebanon, the more concrete Karl has to provide and the more cool cars he can buy. Is that how it works??? ;)

I think so. But don't forget about the dump trucks. They fit in the scene somehow. Oh, and plastics. I think Karl is big in plastics now (and no, not the explosive type...)

The plastics are used for manufactured housing or bridge construction, if I recall correctly, so we can loop back to your original statement... which still holds true.

LOL you guys crack me up :)

Call me crazy, but I have decided to sell my GT-R premium ed. for this little special edition baby.

I have already heard (and can already hear, from L.A. to here) "WHAAAATTT ???? You go from this ..... to THAT ???"

Yes. indeed. For an everyday 2 mi commute inside a city filled with busy traffic all day long, and tiny impasses to navigate through, the Abarth will do much better.
And besides, I'm not doing any sort of racing at all. 1. I have no time for that, and 2. the racing crowd here is pathetic and arrogant at best, basically the "I know everything and you don't know jack" type.

it'll be in my hands within a month. I'll post pix when I receive it :)

So, is the main difference between Fiats and VWs the CEL? I mean, the CEL is always on in a newish VW but on the Fiats, the electrics will be crap too so the CEL won't illuminate?

No the main difference is the wiring for the VW CEL hasn't released all the smoke, so the CEL still works...

I was close...

...and how quickly we all forget that the main reason Fiat left this country was no one bought the cars because they were crap...

Makes sense....

FIAT's only hope in this country is selling to Mopar lovers... We're used to crap.

It's gonna be interesting to see if Fiat has been gone long enough to make people forget "Fix It Again Tony."

Ah, that would be Failed Italian Attempt at Transportation. although, other words starting with F can be substituted here.

Actually, I have very fond memories of my dad's CSP Fiat X1/9. Yes, CSP. Did my first autocross at Riverside International Raceway in that car...

My mom had one of these
Image

It was a Fiat 128 Coupe Sport 1300. Only had 75hp from the factory, but I don't know... We got it from an enthusiast, and it had an aftermarket exhaust and it was lowered a bit on wider wheels. Sure ran stronger than 75hp. Until mom snapped the crankshaft running the canyons against a friends 914.

If I recall correctly, that X11 abomination from Chevrolet was better through the slaloms than just about everything production based, including Porsches and Ferraris.

Grant Byers had an X-11. It was disturbingly quick. I was co-driving a friend's Supra at the time - the first gen 6-cyl Supra - and when we ran head to head it was always close. Of course he was the current Solo Driver of Eminence and I was a 20 year old kid, but still...

Thanks to all for this little stroll down amnesia lane.

Which says volumes when Fiats (and most offerings from BL) were on the bottom of the crap list...

...and that being said, I like the 500/Abarth if in concept only. I'm just saying, "Don't be suprised..."

A Citation also won SSB at the Runoffs in 82' and 84'. For more useless information you did not need/want to know.

I think they used to Rally the Citations back in the day too. Lets be honest though, of the cars on the Chevy lot at the time, they were one of the better looking cars, what would you have picked over it, the Chevette?

My driving instruction car in HS was a Citation. It didn't hold up well to Dukes of Hazzard type driving maneuvers. :)
