Any interest in a track day?

Post by Jamie Lessie »

Would anyone be interested in doing a track day?

If there are enough of you interested I would be happy to organize a track day. With enough people we could even get our own run group. It would likely be at Streets of Willow Springs cost around $130-150 for 4-5 sessions. I could possibly cater the event but to be honest with you Willow Springs makes a pretty good pastrami. We could even overwhelm the local strip joint afterwards.

The best part is, no picking up cones!

Discuss.

Team Blew, and probably a few other groups have been through this... the biggest hurdle was arranging for expensive insurance coverage. As I recall, in order for TB to even get coverage we needed to be incorporated as a non-profit org and there were steps to do that, too. Now there doesn't seem to be enough interest/commitment to raise enough money to do it. So it ends up simpler to just do track events with already established groups (SCCA, NASA, Speedventures etc).

Our Solo events are sanctioned by SCCA for this reason... the Cal Club track events are also sanctioned by SCCA... and there is a Time Trials event, in conjunction with their regular Regional, scheduled by CalClub for June 12/13th. There will be instructors and any car used for Solo will be fine except if a convertible you need a solid rollbar. I am planning on attending that and I would encourage others to do the same.
No, Mako -- you do NOT need to supercharge your new Miata! ...cuz now it's my turn to take it to the track :)
hmmmm... it is no longer "new" -- is it time to get faster?

With enough people I would organize our own run group with Speedventures. I have talked with Aaron a little bit about it. SV has the insurance, workers, etc etc. What is also nice about running with them is I believe they are the only group that willow allows to have passengers.

Did I mention no cones?

only 'instructors' are allowed to have passengers at willow

Don't you have to just sign a form & sit through a class? If I recall correctly...Or was that the Roval? }:)

Buttonwillow is open to passengers? Did not know that. It is a bit more expensive track to run though. An event coming up there with SV May 28th & July 31- August 1.

Green Flag also runs events every so often at Buttonwillow. They are often under booked. A very fun, laid back group I have heard. My boss has been running with them for a very ling time. It would be great to run with them in November.

Anyone?

The difference between this thread and others is that this is a "hypothetical" day/time that does not exist yet. :)

We could skip the track day and just move straight to a "Topeka Memories" Autocrossers Night at the Strip Club. Do we need insurance for this?

There is flexibility of dates. I am just not going to waste my time planning an event that no one will come to.

I will have to check SV's insurance policy to see if we are covered.

July 31- Aug 1 @ Buttonwillow.

Nov. 6-7 @ Streets

Dec 4-5 @ Streets

The dates that don't conflict with solo scheduling.

I am uber bummed Green Flag is running the day of the ladies school. Oh well!

Divorce attorneys? Its far cheaper to just bring the wife and make sure she has a good time.
