Interesting that some regions allow passengers during comp runs ... in order to attract more potential participants.

Now that SM allows subframe mods, how long before we see a couple of engine-less RX-7's showing up in the back of Sportscar?

I won't necessarily be complaining (with the likely exception of the Genesis R-spec)...until we drive the annual GRA course. I've driven a whale, and I'll take my gnat.

Especially with the performance package. Ford has done a great job developing around the live axle, and now their engines are up to snuff too. The R-Spec is no slouch either. They're both more like porpoises than whales. And they both cost less than I paid for my Mini.

Ok, I'll be running my 20 year old technology, beat up old 'vette against $50-60k Caymans & M3's, $40-50k 302 Mustangs, and the occasional (Mr. Kenna) RX-7. Oh, and not to mention the late model AMG Mercedes (no clue about $$). I'm considering still showing up from time to time. ;)

Yeah, I can tell you're quaking in your boots... :P

I think we are moving towards making AS a more interesting class and, it seems, there will be more of these "tweener" cars coming to market to consider. Price is just a function of how much a new car costs, your "beat up old 'vette" was around $40k when new...now adjust for inflation ;)

High MSRP doesn't always make for a fast autocross car. Out of that list, I'll take the Corvette. Maybe that BMW M1 might be interesting. No modern Mercedes is going to be a good autocrosser. Have you seen how much they weigh? They need those 600HP just to get the car moving.

I think John's right. None of the cars we added look like class killers, by any means, but they do now have a place to play and I hope we see some out...particularly the Boss 302.

What do people think about the DS moves, both the Mustang going and the others out for comment?

btw, does the new 2011 WRX (3200 plus lbs) fall into the whale category or gnat?

Seems like it's a dumping ground for cars they can't figure out where to put. But since there are lots of turns in autocross, I'm not to worried.

Normally, I'd call it a porpoise like the Mustang and R-spec. But it's at a disadvantage with the engine in front of the front axle compared to the other two, so I'd have to class it as a narwal.

Fastrack is the name of the monthly publication from the SCCA with news about club racing, autocrossing, and rallycross.
It's basically the minutes from the monthly meetings of the people that run each of the three sports.
There are links to the documents in the first post.
