NOVICE (NOV) and NOVICE LADIES (NOVL)
A. Purpose of this class: To encourage new members/competitors to participate in
autocross and be introduced into the community in a class structured for their needs.
Also, to allow them to sharpen their skills without being discouraged by “getting their
doors blown off” by more experienced drivers.
B. Eligibility: A person who has participated no more than 3 days per year within the last 3
years. A day is defined as any autocross or Solo event, practice or school run by any
organization not limited to CSCC Solo or SCCA.
C. Novice class competitor’s cars must be classed in classes that are outlined in the SCCA
Solo National rules or in the CSCC Solo supplementary regulations. The competitor will
compete at the same time as the competitors in those classes but will be scored with the
other Novice class competitors throughout the day.
D. There will be a guided Novice course walk before the first run group in the morning and
during the lunch break before the afternoon run groups.
E. Class results are based on the entrant’s best time multiplied by the index listed in
Appendix C of the CSCC Solo supplementary regulations class plus any penalty.
F. Year end points will be calculated for these classes based on the six best results for
each driver.

Cam:

All our documentation is on our main site (Solo2.com), such as the Nationals rules for Solo, ProSolo, our own Supplemental Rules, and car classing, and even how to write a letter to Solo SEB (Solo Events Board). As Aaron suggested, please read any of our documentation, and mostly likely you'll find the answers to your questions. If not, then post a question here.

George, can I grab that doc and convert to a PDF to post on the main site? Or is this a rough draft?

Gio, Me thinks it best to just use the links to the document I've installed in three locations, two in this thread and one at MSR.com. Thank you though for the offer.

It's time to register flolks.

Unlike most of our events, this one has a cut-off date for early registration of June 12. After that the price goes up.

Do yourself a favor and register as soon as you read this post so you won't be left out.

For regional purposes, each day counts individually for yearly points, so be sure to register for one of the days even if you can't make both.

For regional points purposes, your results will be adjusted to the class you normally compete. Regional results are usually posted within a week of the completion of the event. So if you are a novice, or normally compete in a regional class not offered for the divisional, no worries.......your scores will be adjusted. For divisional purposes, you will compete in whatever offered class you fit.

If you are making a mid-year class change, please advise us before the event and your score will not be adjusted to the class you have been competing.

Hope this answers your question.

Thanks for the clarification, George.

I have another question - what about the test and tune on the preceding Friday? Are there more details about that event?

Thanks again

The Test n Tune is an arrive and drive event. Tickets will be on sale at the event site. Each participant will be required to work for approximately 30 minutes to help staff the event.

Cam,
divisionals don't use the Chirstmas tree, that's the pro. Divisionals do use a pro style grid. If your registered for the divisional the Friday welcome party is included. I believe the practice runs can be purchased on Friday for test and tune. There is usually a side course and skid pad set up.

So we don't get our regular practice & there is no tree like I saw a wee while ago at El-Toro?

Just when I think I'm starting to understand I guess I'm not. :?

Basically 5 types of events locally:
National Tour - Once a year, usually in San Diego. Run by National staff with their own equipment/timing trailer (except cones). Two day event, best time from each day combined for total. Qualifies you for Nationals. Basically mimics the way Nationals are run so you don't go there completely clueless. Usually a Friday practice course. Travels around the country to other regions, hence the "Tour" part of the name. Prize money and contingency money available. Higher level of competition with drivers from other regions. Many of the requirements of how these events are run are in the SCCA Solo Rules. Entry limits may apply

ProSolo - Once a year, usually hosted by Cal Club. Run by National staff with their own equipment/timing trailer (except cones). Two day event, three sets of runs on mirror image courses with a Christmas tree start. Best run on each side combined for total. Earn points to potentially qualify for ProSolo Finale. Practice starts on Friday. Additional Challenge races on Sunday afternoon. Also travels around the country. Prize money and contingency money available. Entry limits may apply.

Divisional - Same as National Tour except all done by local regional people. Some divisions that don't have a Tour come near them use them to qualify for Nationals. Some divisions have several regions that put them on to form a Series, something we hope to do in the future.

Regional - Our typical Sunday events. Usually at least one a month. Many of the requirements in the Solo Rules are not required for this level.

Practice - Low key events with limited entry (allowing for many more runs). Typically the Saturday before a Regional Sunday event, hosted by a regional club or the e-board, each of which can determine to some extent how the event is run.
Having these before every Sunday event is a relatively new thing in local autocross history, there was a time when there were only one or two a year.

School - An event to help newer people learn the basics and the more experienced to improve. Some events may be limited to new people only or to ladies only. Happen once or twice a year.
