Instructors needed - Street Survival
Finally coming to Southern California...... The Tire Rack Street Survival program.
Have you ever been disappointed in the lack of driving instruction that our teens get as they are learning to drive?
I mean real driving.... the kind of driving that we know is important? Accident avoidance, car control, car dynamics etc.
Here is your chance to get involved to fix this!
The Tire Rack Street Survival program is outstanding and is sponsored by SCCA, BMW-CCA, Tire Rack, Michelin, Enterprise RAC. and the SCCA Foundation.
So here it is.... April 20th at Auto Club Speedway we are going to have 30 teens that will be ready to learn and WE will be there to help them.
We need 15 instructors and 3 or 4 other helpers to pull this off. This program has been VERY successful across the country and is quite rewarding to the instructors as well as to the students.
In return.... you get a free practice day.. April 21st and a free instructor shirt... and you get free food... and that good warm feeling deep down that you have done something really cool.
Please contact me here on the board or call me at 909-641-1123.
Get involved in this one! You will really like it.
Thanks,
Tom

I need to check with The Social Secretary, but if it works on the schedule, I'm definitely in for this!

Re: Instructors needed - Street Survival
We could use some more instructors for this event. Please help out if you can. The people from other parts of the country that I have spoken to that have done this have been very pleased.
You could be making a big difference in a young driver life... like maybe saving it!
The free practice may be moved from Sunday the 21st and integrated with the CASOC practice the next Saturday.

Re: Instructors needed - Street Survival
I'm going to start a list here for those that have stepped up so far. Do to a very busy schedule, Tom has asked me to help coordinate this. In the opening post, Tom mentioned that a free practice for the volunteers would take place on Sunday, April 21, the day after the Survival school. That practice WILL NOT HAPPEN. However, I'm hoping to offer some incentive, most likely a free entry into the upcoming CASOC practice or a future practice, your choice. Still need to run this by the solo committee for approval.
So here's what I have so far:
1. David Barrish - L
2. Kurt Rahn - 3XL
3. Bobby Beyer - XL
4. Mako Koiwai - 2XL
5. Ken Lord (safety) - L
6. George Schilling - XL
7. Leonard Cachola - M
8. Kevin Pao - L
9. Steve Lepper - XL
10. John Basinger - XL
11. Mike Yanase - M
12. Ed Holley - 2XL
13. Sharon Holley - L
14. Mari Clements - M
15. Lisa Severy -
16. Bill Chin - L
17. Hi Ly - XL
18. Mark DeShon - L
19. Kurt Williams - L
20. Kyle Williams - L
For anyone who has volunteered, I need your shirt size for your instructor shirt. Anyone else who chimes in, please give your shirt size when you do.
As Ken said, this is a very worthy program that will yield great personal satisfaction knowing you are helping keep our roads safe by helping these teen drivers understand their cars and responsibilities of the road. Please get involved!
Again, the date of the school is Saturday, April 20, 2013. Please reread Tom's first post for more details.

Re: Instructors needed - Street Survival
The event is still in the planning stages Tin, but I think the schedule would be very similar to our autox days. We'll need at least 5 or 6 folks willing to come early (7ish I'm thinking) to set up, and several to stay a little later to pack up, say to 6:00ish. These are just uneducated guesses at this point. As I receive more information, I'll post it in this thread. I don't expect anyone to be there from dawn to dusk including me. Figure putting in a 8-9 hour day max on either an AM shift or PM shift.Tin Bui wrote:What is the start and end time for the school?

Put me down for the AM shift if that's how you decide to work it out. I have late afternoon plans already.George Schilling wrote:The event is still in the planning stages Tin, but I think the schedule would be very similar to our autox days.
