September 08 Event Chief Volunteers

Post by Mike Simanyi »

Ladies and Gents!

We're looking for some people to help with this event, and since many of our members will be out of town in Topeka for a little shindig, it's a great opportunity for some new volunteers to get their feet wet, much like Tom Tanquary did with our great course for NOTLD.

In particular we're looking for an Event Chief, our SSS (I just sent an e-mail to everyone on my list), a Worker Chief, a Tech Chief and a Waivers Chief (coordinating our gate workers for the non-running periods before the event and at lunch, as well as ensuring all the Waivers are properly endorsed).

In addition to those positions, we'll need volunteers to help with Tech, Registration, Course Setup / Teardown and Gate (before the event and at lunch), and we'll be looking for some new people to help with timing and scoring in the motorhome. If you think you'd like to help with that last part, it's very helpful to have course radio experience and be comfortable with computers and working under a bit of pressure.

Let's start with the Chiefs and work from there.

Thanks for reading,

Mike

Count me in. I don't have much experience with anything but the grid, but I'm happy to learn something new.

Most of the normal tech and registration bodies are available. Worker Chief shouldn't be hard.

I think the area to be looking at is who can we have shadow Rick Brown all weekend. A couple young bright people that can serve as total gophers for Rick both to ease his huge workload, but also to sponge up the knowledge.

Steve, what might help to make things feel normal is if you could record some "SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY" for us.

I agreed to handle the event chair spot a few hours ago. If you really want to do it, let me know.

I could do chief of workers or gate on Sunday only. I would prefer chief of workers.

Suggestions:

(Some edits below)
Sebastian and KJ, how about you two split the responsibilities, being sure to confer on the responsibilities before and during the event. Maybe one of you takes Saturday and the other Sunday, with some equitable split of the Prep stuff. I will coordinate the Practice Registration, cross-referencing with Renee for the FSAE volunteers. I will post the flyer... after Gio tells me how to do it.

Sebastian, Ken Lord has volunteered to be SSS for us. How about having Shauna be his backup so both can get some runs in at the practice.

Jeff, we'd like you as Chief o' Tech. Can we count on you for both days? You should coordinate 2 others for the practice and 4 others for the Championship. That will be their work assignment.

Pete Loney has volunteered for course, and I'd like to let him do it. He's already talking about designing a good course for Nats prep, and I like that since it's my last event before Bill and I shuffle off to Topeka.

Renee will head up Registration for us; a volunteer or two for Saturday would be appreciated and I'll ask Renee to post here to let us know how many Registration workers we need for Sunday.

Looks like we just about have it all lined up:

EventMaster - KJ Christopher/Sebastian Rios
Registration - Renee Angel/Yuki Haneda
Timing and Scoring - Rick Brown
Course Designer - Mike Simanyi/Pete Loney
Tech - Kurt Rahn or Jeff Ringer
Gate - Kurt Rahn or Jeff Ringer
Safety Steward - Ken Lord/Shauna Rios
Workers - Mike Simanyi/Kathy Teulie

Edited to fill the holes.

Kathy,

Do you mean that you can only be there Sunday?

If that's the case, I'd like you to be Chief of Workers on Sunday and I'll take it for Saturday.

Nice going KJ stepping up!

I was against this being a championship and still am, but I'm very excited about the people stepping up. We should get some good training out of this event.

Kurt, I'd like to have you on Waivers (essentially gate), but I need to know your SCCA membership number. Could you update that in your profile on the main site (click the logo to at the top of the page)?

I don't have an SCCA # yet, but I'm going to sign up as soon as I dig up the two sheets of paper Gayle gave me at NOTLD. I'll look for them right now.
