You have a good point Steve.Steve Ekstrand wrote:Jamie-
Your mods aren't that big of deal. If you car was stock legal, it probably wouldn't be that competitive anyway. And if it could be you'd probably need the lightest weight expensive wheels and fresh Hoosiers and a lightweight exhaust and uber shocks to be there. Then of course a non-streetable alignment.
You've made you car more enjoyable for the street and pleasure drives and a fun albeit non-competitive autox toy. Don't have any regrets.
When I first found out that I would be way outclassed due to my port/polish I was happy about it. I figured I would not spend much money on racing that way. I guess I should still be happy about that
I ran a slight toe out in the front for a while. Talk about a pain in the butt. It is set to 0 now. I like my streetable car

Re: Post Car Classing Help Questions Here!
Hi,
I have a friend that wants to come out and try autox.
He has a 1971 Chevelle:
...my engine is a stroked 350 making 383 CID. It is completely modified from stock, aftermarket intake, carb and ignition. The suspsension is also all aftermarket, tubular upper and lower A-arms, box control arms, upgraded disc breaks, the whole 9 yards. There really is nothing stock about my car other than the body and bumpers at this point. Oh, maybe the gas tank!
...new seats and gauges with the standard steering wheel and center console.
I am thinking CSM or HIST?

Re: Post Car Classing Help Questions Here!
If he are going to run street tires, CST is slightly better to be in. Not sure which class you would fall in w/ HIST - one of the other guys can probably tell you.
Of course, it's probably easiest just to do CST, and have NOV as an index if he wants.

No go on HIST - that's for Stock class cars only, in every aspect of the SCCA rules.
And Mr. Rahn - I just saw your post. If I *ever* post at crazy hours on the last day of the month or the following day, it's work keeping me up late...

Re: Post Car Classing Help Questions Here!
Looks like no go for HIST because it is a 71 and HIST is 68 and older:
Regardless, CST it looks like for the tires he has.
Thanks!
But based on the Appendix C reference HIST can be any level of preparation, unless you want the street tire index as well.HISTORIC:
Any category car, prepared in accordance with the SCCA National Solo Rule Book,
with the following exceptions:
(a) All cars of 1968 vintage or older, except that the following cars are eligible
regardless of year of manufacture due to similarity to eligible pre-1969 cars:
Lotus Europa Series 1 & 2, Lotus Elan
Datsun 1600 & 2000
MGB, MG Midget
Morgan +4, 4/4 & Plus 8
[Other cars may be added by written appeal to the Rules Committee]
(b) Each car will be PAXed according to Appendix C of this Rules Book.
(c) All Stock Class cars running tires with a treadwear rating of 140 or higher will
receive an additional PAX of .975 over their Stock Class PAX.
Regardless, CST it looks like for the tires he has.
Thanks!

Clarify something for me.
In http://cms.scca.com/documents/Solo_Rule ... _Rules.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I see:
Super Stock (SS)
BMW
M3 (‘08+)
Z4 M Coupe & Roadster
(‘06+)
Chevrolet
Corvette C5 (all)
Corvette C6 (all non ZR-1)
Dodge
Viper R/T, GTS
Viper SRT-10
Lexus
IS-F
Lotus
Elise N/A (‘05+) (see App. F)
Esprit Turbo
Exige N/A (‘06+)
Mazda
RX-7 Turbo (’93+)
Mercedes
C63 AMG
Porsche
911 (996 chassis) (‘98+)
911 (997 chassis)
911 Turbo, 930 (2WD)
911 GT3 (996)
Boxster S (‘05+)
Cayman S (‘06+)
I also see mention of "same line update/backdate" but only for the street prepared/prepared type of classes.
So in SS with a C6 can I take a the wider Z06 wheels and put them on a base coupe/convertible?

There is no Update Backdate for stock classes. The car pretty much needs to be how that car would have left the factory.Kristoffer Gjevre wrote:Clarify something for me.

Re: Post Car Classing Help Questions Here!
I am sure that you would be welcomed in Hist. We're a pretty easy going group. You just have to use the index from the national class that the car would compete in and if you are on 140+ wear rated tires, you would get an additional .975 off. This is a CalClub region only class, so if most of the competitiors agree, and I am sure they will, come on and play with us.No go on HIST - that's for Stock class cars only, in every aspect of the SCCA rules.

I will let my friend/relative with the 1971 Chevelle know, but so far he has bailed on coming out even though he made it sound like he was very determined to do it before.John Fendel wrote:I am sure that you would be welcomed in Hist. 13. (2nd paragraph)
Except for modifications authorized below, Stock Category cars must
be run as specified by the factory with only standard equipment as
defined by these Rules. This requirement refers not just to
individual parts, but to combinations thereof which would have
been ordered together on a specific car. [cut]
Option package conversions may be performed between specific
vehicles of a particular make and model, but only between configurations
from within a particular model year. Such conversions must
be totally complete and the resultant car must meet all requirements
of this Section. These requirements are not met by simply
pulling a fuse to disable a feature which distinguishes one model
from another.

My friend has a 2007 Honda Civic Si and his only modifications are a carbon fiber hood and an intake. Does this necessarily automatically put him in SM? This month's event will be his first. Thanks!

Re: Post Car Classing Help Questions Here!
Depending on his tires he could also run CST or possibly SST. If he reinstalls the stock hood and all associated bits, the intake likely puts him in some class within the ST category.Tito Sar wrote:My friend has a 2007 Honda Civic Si and his only modifications are a carbon fiber hood and an intake. Re: Post Car Classing Help Questions Here!
Hi guys & gals! Just looking at getting into solo racing and had a quick question about what class my car would run in.
its a 2005 e46 m3. only modifications are its tires (265/35/18 all around on street tires) and larger rotors/calipers.
I've been told I can run in STU?
