First time Paul and I went to a "Gentleman's Club" was Angel's in Long Beach for my 21st b-day. At the time they were featuring "Hot Cream Wrestling". Anyway, we're sitting on the rail, natch, and the comedian/MC asks, "Who has a fantasy girl?" Paul raises his hand, high. MC says, "What is it?" and puts the mike in Paul's face.Steve Ekstrand wrote: Better than a wet t-shirt contest would be a Wet Catholic School Girl contest.... I'm just saying.... I bet Curt, Paul and George will have my back on this call. Might take some heat from the Berry family though.

Re: Student with top grades won't be valedictorian?
High School in Chicago in the early '70s. I was one of the dope-smoking, sort-of nerdy crowd. Junior year was interesting. I talked my way into the Film Studies class by virtue of being heavily involved in photography. It was Advanced English, but the old biddy I had sophomore year wouldn't sign off, so I had to take a regular English class too. It was taught by a young guy fulfilling his student teaching gig. He must have been lucky because they didn't send him to one of the ghetto schools. I got a B in film studies despite making only one of the two required films. I was the only one who shot black and white and used live action with an actor. Still have it somewhere. Second film ran into production problems, ie, couldn't herd my dope smoking friends to get the damn the thing done. I also had Chemistry that year right after lunch. Bad timing. Lunch time was for eating and then going outside, weather be damned, to smoke, or as O'Neil calls it, bowling.
I wasn't much for studying and if I didn't care about the subject, I put in even less effort. I managed to graduate in the bottom quarter of my class of nearly 900 and had to hear from my home room teach and counselor about how I had the test scores that proved I could have done better. I just didn't give a s***; I was taking photo classes at the Art Institute of Chicago and I pretty much went where I wanted, when I wanted. 85% of high school and its environs didn't interest me.

High school "you'll remember these experiences for the rest of your life." yeah....
I was one of the geeky AP/Honors students. I remember the day that one of the football coaches got on the PA during first period and announced to the whole school that one of the players had just been signed on to play football at some school in Utah (shows how much I watch college football, I don't even remember the collage). We all just sat there stunned because one of the kids in our class had been accepted to Stanford, which was pretty cool in a school where the majority of the kids would go to Harvard on the Hill (Chaffey Community College). Why wasn't that being announced on the PA? Well I think that the school administration learned quickly not to piss off the geeks. I'm sure the conversation went something along the lines of: "So tell me Principle _______, does this high school value it's sports programs over its accademics? Because it certainly is looking that way." A week later they got on the PA again and announcer that Tim had been accepted to Stanford. (Geeks 1, Admin 0)
I guess they learned because Lisa said that they now announce what colleges that any of the students are accepted to (although they still screw that up because Lisa also said that they announced the wrong schools for her)

Re: Student with top grades won't be valedictorian?
When I was a senior (before PA systems) our high school math program received a Ford Foundation Grant to have a calculus class starting at 7:00 in the morning, followed by our regular senior math class at 8. There were no other calculus classes in the city at that time, IIRC. The class of 13 students made an unbelievable harvest of scholarships----Reed College in Portland, Cal Tech, Stanford, Julliard, 2 U of Oregon, Willamette U, are the only ones that I remember at this time. But I believe it was at least 11 or 12 of the 13 that didn't have to pay for college. Not bad for the ghetto high school of Portland, Oregon. There were also two 3 sport athletes, (myself being one of those) that spent a little over 10 hrs a day at good ole Roosevelt.....Christine Berry wrote:High school "you'll remember these experiences for the rest of your life." yeah....

You don't hear about Reed College much, but its a great school.
I was at a reunion dinner for old spooky types, and the conversation turned to alma matars. All top schools. Plenty of Yale and Harvard types. Some Stanford and Berkeley. MIT and Princeton. What surprised me was three guys at the table from Reed. That was the first I heard of the school. Turns out its grads are highly sought after by certain quiet HR departments.

Re: Student with top grades won't be valedictorian?
I graduated with a scorching 2.54 GPA.
In High School, I was boooooredd... I was working at my first job in 1984 at the age of 15 repairing computers (not replacing boards, troubleshooting and replacing components) and in class I was reading hardware and software manuals. The school had no idea what to do with a smart kid who had direction and just treated everyone as an amorphous blob to send through the factory of education.

All this talk of school and grades sickens me. With a .6 GPA, I didn't even know what a valadickwhatever was. I didn't know I was hanging with a bunch of brainiacs.

Meh. My college GPA was 2.03. Got a D+ in Income Tax Accounting, my last quarter, that screwed up the 2.00 I was going for...Will Kalman wrote:I graduated with a scorching 2.54 GPA.

The Catholic girls in Chicago used to wear jeans under the skirt to walk to school in the winter. I don't suppose that was necessary in SoCal.Curt Luther wrote:What will I wear on the other leg?Ashley Armstrong wrote:You can borrow mineCurt Luther wrote: My skirt's at the cleaner's

I actually use my stuff to climb rock. Kinda boring, I know. Of course it's been years and I'm not the 140 pound rock jock I used to be. Too much of this: and this:
