Good news for SK1 & SK2 at San Diego Tour

Post by Mark Duerst »

We have been cleared to run SK1 & SK2 at the San Diego National Tour.

Sign up for the event in AMod - in the notes to registrar box add your class - i.e. SK1 - AS.

At the event you will be called SK1 & SK2. Online registration can't be changed so you must register in AMod.

Don't forget that national tour rules for car numbers apply.

This is a great opportunity to show SCCA what this class is all about.

I thought the SCCA was interested in monitoring SST ... as the ST class for cars that have no current Street Tire class in National events

Wow, that *is* good news! Looks like I'm going to have to rethink not going to the NT now... :ibrightdea:

SK1 and SK2 have been classes in LA and SD for a couple years now and this is the first time they have been included in the national tour. SST has only had one event. And that event was an LA event. For the tours, the hosting region has the option of asking for local classes to be included in tours.

Therefore, there would be no reason for SD to try and run SST since it is a brand new class and not a class that they have.

I'd like STH (Street Touring Heavy).
Its ST rules with a minimum weight with driver of 2360lbs.

I just looked at the NT and thought "$90 to get my a** kicked by folks running Hoosiers.. No Way"

But this changes the situation completely! Great news, and thanks to whoever did the horse trading to get this through.

How 'bout STSH (Street Touring Super Heavy)? Bump that driver+car weight up to 3800 pounds. I'd so own that class.

Well said Christine.

SK1/SK2 is an indexed class and takes some extra work to run at the tour. But it is a well subscribed class in both SD/LA regions. This is a good opportunity to show off the merits of the SK concept to the national folks.

The Pro is a different animal. it really is a series that requires at least 2 events to be run to qualify for the Pro finale. Maybe the class could be run as a demonstration class but it would not count in the series since it won't be run elsewhere.

Running SK1/SK2 in the tour does qualify you to run at nationals.

So sign up for the tour!

Where did you hear that? At best a rumor. It would very difficult to get any credible data from a Regional ST_ class, when very likely ever Region that has it is doing it differently.

Actually, during the Pro, Jon might need someone to fill the warm chair left by my behind-- My butt might be somewhere else ProSolo weekend.

Tadd doesn't have a ride for the Pro since the Avard's are coming into town and we always share rides for the Pro's.
Let me know if somebody wants an ST co-driver. Gain access to cold Heineken and Samual Adams in the Trailer Lounge!

Good news for the Pro also.
We will be able to run our local classes there also. The details on how to work it all out are being handled now. More info to follow.
