EVOTC (EVOC?) was brought up in another thread and that brought back memories so I dug out an old video tape...
Some mod cars running and stuff while it is getting dark:

I'm wondering how that passed safety? Looks a bit dangerous.

I remember that event! Fun times.
Actually there were far more "exciting" course designs(1995?) that even used the banked 3-lane corner before this event. AVERAGE(not max) speed for the fastest stock class car was around 49 - 51 mph, if I remember correctly(those days one of the GRA members used to measure the courses and graph them-Richard). The banked corner was coned so only the bottom lane could be used, but it was possible to take a good line and use the entire banked exit and barely miss the ARMCO. Fun times, 3rd gear in a 1.6L C Stock Miata. I will dig up the results. Now the blasphemy: I believe that a C Stock Miata had the Top Time of Day for Stock Classes in one of those "oval" events. Yes, Super Stock was also running that day...

I saw that video and realized there's *no* way we could run that today...George Schilling wrote:I'm wondering how that passed safety? Looks a bit dangerous.

But the rules regarding course design have not really changed?Mike Simanyi wrote:I saw that video and realized there's *no* way we could run that today...George Schilling wrote:I'm wondering how that passed safety? Looks a bit dangerous.

Wait a minute, Buetzer was only 8 years old in 1995.George Doganis wrote: Now the blasphemy: I believe that a C Stock Miata had the Top Time of Day for Stock Classes in one of those "oval" events. Yes, Super Stock was also running that day...

Ah, those were good times. I'm pretty sure my CSP Miata got a new paint job after that event.
(Although it could have been one of the earlier years as the tri-oval was definitely involved!)

I remember that event Dave. I drove your car that night ( morning? )David Palmquist wrote:Ah, those were good times. I'm pretty sure my CSP Miata got a new paint job after that event.

I can also remember several nice cars going into the dirt... like John Fendel's at one of the day events there.

I don't know about the validity of that statement Tom, but I do know that insurers, lawyers and liability law have advanced since then, as have the SCCA loss ratios...Thomas Smith wrote:But the rules regarding course design have not really changed?Mike Simanyi wrote:I saw that video and realized there's *no* way we could run that today...George Schilling wrote:I'm wondering how that passed safety? Hm, so the sign says EVOTC, but on the ground it says EVOC...

You had your "incident" in 1998 as I remember. It was the same day I bought my ITR.David Palmquist wrote:Ah, those were good times. I'm pretty sure my CSP Miata got a new paint job after that event.

John likes dirt. I remember seeing John kick up some dust at Riverside Raceway once...Tom Berry wrote:I remember that event Dave. I drove your car that night ( morning? )David Palmquist wrote:Ah, those were good times. I'm pretty sure my CSP Miata got a new paint job after that event.
