Re: GRA Championship Pics and Vids (10.24.10)
as the second car out on the course for the day, and a relatively green autocrosser, I was REALLY concerned that I was going to be the only jacka** to blow that finish. THANKS MAX! Fortunately you and I were not alone, haha ... it was A LITTLE tricky.

Max,
Nice that you didn't even pretend to come back and not DNF. Classy move. I would have done the same

It wasn't really tricky. It was just annoying not being able to power thru the finish lights.Greg Dennis wrote: that was A LITTLE tricky.

I didn't really see the point - 50.1 + DNF, or 50.1 + 1 ... neither one was any use to me.Ken Lord wrote:Max,

Ok, so it was tricky the first time, and then a little annoying, haha, but the rest of the course made up for it.Eric Clements wrote:It wasn't really tricky. It was just annoying not being able to power thru the finish lights.Greg Dennis wrote: that was A LITTLE tricky.

Yeah, that course was big fun. The downhill entrance to that big right-hand sweeper took a little, um, delicacy...a rare autocross turn where a road racing line was needed. Big thanks to all GRA members!

I'll try to get all of the photos posted tomorrow. Lots of boring shots ... we didn't have a very good angle on the course for most of the day. Big Thanks to Karen and Angie for tripping the shutter when I was busy!

I mean this as constructively as possible, but that was easily one of the top 5 worst finishes I've ever seen on an autox course. The rest of the course was ok though.Eric Clements wrote:It wasn't really tricky. It was just annoying not being able to power thru the finish lights.Greg Dennis wrote: that was A LITTLE tricky.

Re: GRA Championship Pics and Vids (10.24.10)
I kept wimping the finish ... lifting just before the lights.
I wonder what Casey thought of it after working it in the long 4th (3rd?) run group ... by himself. He did a LOT of running

Will's 4th run ... camera needs to be higher to see over the side review mirror ... and could be panned further right to see more up the road. I need to take advantage of the new LiveView available for the GoPro:

It isn't really wimping. The finish was a turn - you had to lift somewhere to navigate it. (And that just seems a little unnatural at a finish.)
I thought the course was fun. (Would have been even more fun with more power.) I enjoyed the long sweeper, trying to get that entrance just right and then maintain that raged edge all the way around. Sector three wasn't bad either - not too tight, but reminding me the importance of driving OUT of the elements instead of driving into them. The finish was very anticlimatic though. Finishing in a turn just isn't fun. I would rather have had a straight shot out for 200' and then a left turn to the timing slip person (leaving the lights about where they were, maybe 20' later). Being able to hang it out a little after the last curve would have been more fun. Other than that, I enjoyed it. Good job Casey and Jason!
My video (may still be processing): http://vimeo.com/16173811" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I had an X run 4 tenths quicker, just need to find the correct video. And I need to remember to hold up the timing slip to the camera from now on....

The long straight into the showcase turn complex was so much fun!

Personally I like a Starter that actually uses the flag with some flourish! Thanks Gio ...

Re: GRA Championship Pics and Vids (10.24.10)
Of course I don't have a lot of experience but I really like the course, the finish not withstanding. However for small turnout event like this, or what I hear the Thanksgiving event is likely to be, a course with a cross over that lengthens it and still has fast sections would be a lot of fun.
Re: GRA Championship Pics and Vids (10.24.10)
Really? I didn't have any problem getting my 2160-lb. Spyder slowed after the lights. Then again, I'm not carrying speed like the Berry-mobile! The finish was a little different than most, but it's the same finish for everyone, and autocross is all about adapting to the elements.Marshall Grice wrote:I mean this as constructively as possible, but that was easily one of the top 5 worst finishes I've ever seen on an autox course. Re: GRA Championship Pics and Vids (10.24.10)
I would have "felt" better about it if the lights had been at the corner exit or even 45 degrees across. Then it would have been "course challenge" instead of post-finish hang on and hope for survival. I tried to pretend it was just another corner on the course, but something inside kept insisting on no-lift until thru the lights.Marshall Grice wrote:I mean this as constructively as possible, but that was easily one of the top 5 worst finishes I've ever seen on an autox course.
