Championship winning RX-8

Sold

For Sale: One owner 2005 Mazda RX-8, 87k miles, arguably the most successful RX-8 in SCCA Solo - the car has never left the Solo Nationals without a Championship. The car is super easy to drive fast, and has given us none of the issues other owners seem to struggle with. Still on the very strong original engine (which is still under the Mazda extended engine warranty), and original transmission.
After the 2009 Nationals the car was “retired” from competition and returned to nearly OE trim, only the stock class single-side Borla exhaust (under 90db, very mellow), Mazdaspeed front swaybar, Green air filter and alignment were retained in Solo stock spec. At that time a set of new front rotors were installed, and all four corners got new OE brake pads. Wanting to cut down the number of spare parts I had on hand I also removed the original catalytic convert and installed our “nationals” cat – this is a OE converter that we bought at the urging of Mazda to use only once a year, and it had previously only seen use at the 2007-08 nationals.
Spares include a complete set of new coils, new fuel pump, OE plug wires (Magnecore 8mm currently on the car, new spark plugs installed at 80k), one season old Konis, OE front swaybar, factory shop manual, OE air filter (like new) and a 2005 spec starter – Mazda revised the starter and battery spec (TSB issued) due to complaints of hard starting, the results was a much larger capacity (heavier) battery and higher amp starter. I picked up a new 05’ spec unit while they could still be found so we could continue to race the car with the lighter 05’ spec setup. To save wear and tear on the 05’ starter we put in the newer unit after retiring the car. The car is fitted with brand new BFG KDW tires (245/40-18), wrapped around 18”x8”, 18lb Rota P1 wheels (stock class legal offset).
The car has always been treated to Pure Power lubricants; the same stuff the factory Mazda racers’ use, and utilizes a reusable Pure Power oil filter.

Solo Nationals
2005 BS 1st, BSL 3rd
2006 BS 1st, BSL 2nd
2007 BS 1st, BSL 1st
2008 BS 1st, BSL 2nd
2009 STX 2nd, STXL 1st
All of the stock class championships were accomplished on skinny 245 Kumho V710s and off the shelf Koni single adjustable shocks, imagine what it could do with big Hoosiers and some shock work.

$9500.00 takes it all.
