turnkey solo package come pick up

Post by Steve Ekstrand »

Why did I decide to go to Packwood?

Arrived I bend, or at 11am.
7 hours later I'm 18miles into WA.

Fire closed i-5.
I-5 reopens and is flowing great now. I can see it from NW pacific hwy.

Idiot me got off the fwy.gone a mile in thee hours. I'm sure that movement is just cars pulling off or turning around .

Cars coming the other way are yelling at us to turnaround. Narrow MTN road I can't.

This road has outlets other than the where I goton and where I'm trying to get.

Cars are running out of gas and overheating. Its 100f at 6pm.

I'm tempted right now to drive the rig into the ditch walk the mile down the hill and hitch a ride to the airport.

Anybody want to come get it?

The SFr folks who stayed on the fwy got 2hr delays at worst. I had to get off the fwy. What an idiot.

Did I mention the fire was moving away from the fwy and towards is idiots trapped on a narrow two lane MTN road with no exits?

And yeah I'm having a total meltdown right now.

Sorry to hear that! Sounds like there is going to be some interesting STS action at CA Spdwy tomorrow evening. Motonishi and Kyle trying out the new Kuhmo ST tire. Some pretty fast local STS hot shoes with a pro-level light bar attachment. Weather is very pleasant at the moment ...

Hope you're safe! :(

So what you're really saying is that instead of this hell today trying to get to Packwood I could have stayed home and had my considerable ass handed to me in just as rude and forceful a manner as Hollis and McCormick will.

Does anyone have the cell number of some people who went up to Packwood? I have not been able to reach Steve since 7:00 p.m. last night and I am a bit worried. I would like to at least know that he got up there OK.

Thanks.

Stacey,

I have at least 4 cell nos. but two are running in SS (Ambrose Fung/Rod Brassard) in the first heat (starts at 9 am) and Jay Zelazo is working in the first heat (ASP).....bunch of guys/gal from Calgary are running there...

Also, I phoned and left a message on Robin Tong's cellphone who is running in AS....also Phillip Zhu (CS)....

Barbara is running in the 1st heat also....

Will let you know if I hear something.

Of course, Steve is running in heat 2, so the early results should show a time for him if he is there.

Last year the cell reception for AT&T was terrible to non-existant in Packwood but Verison worked well.

Finally heard from Steve and he is OK. Didn't drive well apparently but OK. T-mobile has no reception up there either.

160 miles from Packwood I was on schedule to make it there at 2-2:30pm.

Didn't make it there til 10pm. 160 miles in 11 hours.

Of course, I left tons of prep to do since I was going to be there early Friday....

So, I was obviously way to sleep deprived and rattled to drive on Saturday. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Sunday was better (and cooler). But a 1.1 second crash on my counting lap (pushed to the outside wall and lost all momentum into a fast section) and a cone on my fastest lap, made the better driving on Sunday for parts of the course, more than a little meaningless. If magic could have somehow combined the first half of lap two with the second half of lap three, I would have trophied easily.
