Any advise on Hankook Ventus z214?

Has anyone run or known someone who has experienced Hankook Ventus z214? It will be my first time running any type of competition DOT race tire. Let me know what you all think :mrgreen:

What type of car?

That's a track R tire, correct? Typically NG for AX, because they don't come up to temperature quick enough. Might be OK for El Toro in the summer, but just OK. Won't be able to compete with A6's or 710's. You don't see folks using the track R6 instead of the A6, where as I'm surprised how many track rats use 710's and A6's.

Which compound are you using? C51 (track) or C71 (autoslalom)?

Thanks for the response guys.

@Mako: It's for a 350z. Hankook has a soft compound known as C71 for autocross use, whereas the C51 is their "track" tire with a medium compound.

So, I am referring to the C71.

Any other feedback?

It will be interesting to see how it does. There are certain National types that will spare no expenses testing tires. Since we haven't seen those at National events, one can assume that they aren't a serious threat to the status quo R's

They do make a C91 in a 275/35/18.

I use them for all my local club events becuase they are so much cheaper than Hoosiers in my size (245/45R16).

They need to be a bit warmer than A6s before their grip comes in, and they won't take as much heat as a V710. I like them though -- they get the job done :)

What was the job? Typically it's to win in a DOT R tire class. Not seeing many wins with them?

Last years Nationals ... about 1,200 drivers ... did a quick look. Not too many Hankook R tires in the results.

Perhaps they're overlooking that tire? Looking forward to hearing how you like it ...

I wouldn't dream of going to the Nationals with anything except Hoosiers. But, not every race is the Nationals -- the Hankooks are pretty good and a lot cheaper.

I'm picking up the Hankook Ventus z214 C91 compound x4 tomorrow. So, we will see how they feel :)

Bringing this one back from the dead. Anyone have any experience with these tires and Road racing with the C51 compound?

Sorry. Did not see this til now. I have the Hankook 214s. Last year, I ran San Diego as much as I was running Cal Club. In San Diego, the ES folks were all running R-Comps. I ran Dunlop street tires until mid-year against their R-Comps. For the 2nd half of the year, actually around August, on the Hankooks I won 2 or 3 races.

I'm mostly concerned with road racing, since this car is being built for a specific class. I wasn't sure if the Hankooks were like the Hoosier R6 or the BFG R1S tires.

I ran the C51 225/45/17 last weekend at Buttonwillow on a 2900 lb Fwd. I ran 4 races plus qualifying on a set with one previous session on them.
There was nothing left on them at the end of the weekend but they didn't cord.

Grip is not as good as an A6 or BFG R-1S probably on par with R6 or BFG R1.

The Hankook is ok to get started on, they are inexpensive, but they are slower and wont last as long as the BFG. When I ran that same car that Toby just drove we could get four weekends out of the R1, and it had to weigh 3100lbs back then. The R1S would wear out a little quicker, but its also faster. I would be surprised if the A6 would survive on your car for more than a single weekend.

Thats basically all I'm planning on doing with the kooks. I'll probably end up on BFGs or Hoosiers once I get some more seat time and confidence in the car.
