Tire Question

Post by Steve Glusman »

Does anyone know how Yoko Advan 048's compare to Hoosier R6 tires?

Since I'm limited on size and therefore options....I can't run the A6 like everyone else

I've been running used 048's.....trying to look ahead [that's what you all tell me to do] and wondering if R6 is any better for autoX.....knowing neither is optimal.

Appreciate your thoughts

I sometimes run Yokohamma Advan Sports, they have a traction rating of 180 I believe.
Hoosier A6 have an traction rating of about 40.

They will grip better than any street tire. Not sure of the rules in your class on tires though.

Tom -- the Advan 048 have rating of 60 so you must be thinking of different tire.

The R6 is rated at 40

so....how much better would it be?

It's not just a matter of treadwear rating. More important is how much heat a given tire needs for optimal traction.

And the answer to that more important question is 'Too Much'.

What sizes are you looking for? There's got to be better options out there than R6 and Yoko's for you. You'd probably be better off with Kumhos or A6s in non-optimal size.

The Stock restriction is on wheel size. You can mount any tire that will fit on the rim and clear the bodywork.

Not clear the fender, or not fit the wheel?

Tim Albin is now using 275/35/15 on his CS Miata 6" oem size wheels. :(
