Mini Questions

Post by Kurt Rahn »

Got a couple questions for you Mini drivers:

1) What's the stock 17" wheel size and offset for a R56 Mini Cooper S?
2) Is it legal on stock-class cars to black out the chrome beltline with blackout film?
3) Is it legal to swap the stock S front grille with a factory AeroKit blackout grille?

1. 17x7 48et (I have a set of lightweight wheels with lightly used A6's available)
2. yes
3. Probably, since it is a factory part, that is part of a factory option... although you can't order just the grill piece. My guess is, no one will bug you about it.

My grand STS2 CRX plan crumbled into little tiny pieces, so it looks like I'm back to the GS or SK2 Mini plan. It ain't gonna happen for about a year, though (unless I can get out of my lease), so until then, I'm just doing some research and dreaming about something smaller than the Great White Whale.

Almost impossible to get out of leases right now.

If you just want to black out the stock grill you can do anything you want with paint, powdercoating, specialty coatings, and vinyl. Knock yourself out. Probably cheaper than trying to find a part you can't buy seperately and the plus is you wouldn't have to worry about legality.
