Hi, since I am a complete newbie, I do not know if Im in a position to volunteer to help. But I want to make myself available to pick up cones, or anything else! Thanks! I just registered and am hoping to see El Toro for the first (and maybe last :( ) time. :D

Hi again David,

We're an all volunteer organization, so as part of your participation in the event, you will be required to complete a work assignment (so you can look at that as volunteering! :D ). As a first timer, you'll typically be out on course shagging cones. The novice course walks usually feed you into a driver's meeting where they'll teach you the basics of working course and the rules of the cones (i.e.: your life is more important than any cone, if you can't get it done, just leave it till next car... or, if a cone is down or out of it's box, you need to let your section's radio person know, etc.).

You'll sign up for your work assignment at the registration table when you check in, and then just show up at the motorhome at the appropriate time to check in with the Worker Chief and get your course assignment. It's all pretty basic, and we'll hunt you down if you don't show up for work (ok, maybe not "hunt", but we will call your name out over the PA and hopefully shame you into getting out to work!).

Be sure and use our "Instructor" lines when you pull your car into grid. Let them know it's your first time, and they'll get you an expert to help you through the course.

And as Rick said in your other thread, if you're close and want to stop by on Saturday, you can come check out the practice event, get the lay of the land and maybe do a few ride alongs to see what it's all about (just show up in grid with a helmet and ask nicely, you'll be in a car in no time). No charge to come check it out (but you do need to get a special passenger wrist band if you want to ride....ask at the gate when you come in).

Kevin's pushing me to take on trying course design so if you guys are willing to have a newbie try it out I'd be down for the challenge! Maybe I could team up with someone more experienced?

I may need to put the fan back in my car given the expected temp on Sat and Sun.
