Any recommendations for a good tire shop in Orange County. Close to Irvine would be ideal. I am going to mount some of my old tires onto a friends car.

I have used Americas Tire in 8281 Warner Ave, Huntington Beach, CA 92647 with good results.

I've had good luck with America's Tire shops as well. Typically pretty friendly, and don't balk when I show up with tires that I didn't buy from them and just want them to mount/balance. I've used the store right off the 5 at Alicia (in the Target parking lot) many times.

I use Action Auto/Tire in Mission Viejo. Quite a bit less $ than America's Tire to mount and balance.

I didn't know Action Automotive did tire mount/balance. Good to know for the future. I had them replace my leaky engine mounts once and was happy with the work they did. They also did some tricky electrical gremlin work on an old van conversion we used to have (other shops just balked at the van conversion electrical stuff).

Rim and Tire Center in Garden Grove would always do my tire flipping for $60.

$60-80 for 4, depending on rim size and if the wheels are on the car.

Will they refuse to squeeze fat tires on skinny wheels? 225 on 6"

I'd ask them. AFAIK they don't have restrictions like big corp chains, regarding min tread depth, etc.
