Re: Car Classification Help

I ran CSM for a couple years with diminishing participation and eventually gave it up for lack of entries and moved to CST. If you want competition, CST is the place to be. Probably all the fast cars are on RE71Rs or BFG Rival S 1.5's.

Re: New Guy, 06 Mini Cooper S

Best to spend no money until you have a better idea of what you need and what's allowed. Take in a few events with what you have. Get to know some people and ask advice from those in similar cars or people turning in good times in the classes you're interested in. About the worst thing you can do is...

A really excellent course for skills development. Anyone who habitually drives point to point got a crash course in looking/planning ahead. Great fun.

Re: Magnetic number "kits"

That would be the other possibility. Problem is keeping needed quantities of all the digits. Can you PM me your contact info and I'll pass along to the program chairman. What I was asking about has no numerals-- you make them "digital-style" from magnetic strips. I've seen them, but don't ...

Magnetic number "kits"

The CalClub RallyX program is considering making magnetic numbers, or equivalent, mandatory. They would be sold as needed at tech. Considering options, I recall seeing magnetic number kits composed of multiple short rectangular magnetic pieces which the driver arranges into numbers. I don't know if ...

Re: Free trailer(s)

As it turned out we couldn't break open the larger trailer. Both the nifty "spanner lockpick trick" that Anthony directed me to and the biggest, bad-assest bolt cutters simply couldn't break open the Master locks that were on that trailer. The bolt cutters had a straight jaw, not anything...

Re: FSEA Track in Southern California

FSAE cars have regularly run our events in the past, so you shouldn't have a problem. Just check the normal stuff like loose battery, fluid leaks etc. Be sure your helmet doesn't stick above the roll bar. I believe a special rule for open wheel formula cars is you have to run a full face helmet.

Re: How to tell which group is running?

Is this really a problem? Kinda falls under personal responsibility to me. We don't really seem to have an issue filling the grid or getting the workers out on time. First part of that is up to you guys at the top. Relying on people's sense of personal responsibility sounds trendy, but when they fa...

Re: How to tell which group is running?

Since there is no break between run groups 2 and 3 it can appear to "blend" that might cause people to arrive late to work or grid to run. I can see it being a minor issue but would be nice to know while in paddock. I liked the PCA flag system when they remembered to change the flag color...

Re: 2018 Event Statistics

Multi-drivers should start from one end and singles from the other. Perhaps this doesn't happen because not everyone got the word. Perhaps it's because a single driver has seen that those who line up on the far side usually wind up running last and he doesn't want that. But for whatever reason, it h...

Anthony Porta wrote:Hey guys and gals lets see all your ideas about how to tell from far away which group is running?
What would be your objective? Under the current format with only four groups, if you're not running and not working, it's pretty easy to assume what group is. Who's the customer for this information?

Re: 2018 Event Statistics

In my group the multi-driver lanes overflowed, but there were empty lanes further out. We just needed another designated multi lane. People are supposed to fill from the outsides, but that doesn't happen. Herding cats.

Re: 2018 Event Statistics

I would think we have another advantage with this format. Often one or two 2-driver cars manage to arrive late, or need extra tire cooling or whatever, and have the course all to themselves at the end. Any reason we can't feed initial cars from the next group in at the same time we're finishing up t...

Re: 2018 Event Statistics

FWIW, I was the first group starter and spaced the initial cars at 20 sec. Anthony came over and requested we close it to 17 seconds which I did for the rest of the group. When it was my turn to run, I noticed we were back to 20 seconds. First group we had perhaps four "hold the starts" la...

Re: 2017 Event Run Time Statistics

So tell me where I'm going wrong here: January '17, 176 entries, 9:41 hrs 176 x 4 x25/60 = 293 minutes = 4.9 hrs vs 9:41 actual. This is all nominal data, no re-runs etc so just approximate. Approximate and maybe wrong -- I'm sure some will see it differently. The difference between nearly 10 hrs an...

Re: 2017 Event Run Time Statistics

Your tables vary a bit, but some of them include total time. Is that total time of day time? 1st car out until last car finish? If we were to compare total time to the number of total runs x 25 seconds (my estimate of typical time between starts), would we now have a way to estimate total time of no...

I'm also thinking of the accumulations of late start, course changeovers, kart to car changeover, lunch breaks running long etc. It must occasionally add up to a depressing number when the sun is going down. There's been a lot of talk about how we used to be more efficient. Perhaps we should be look...

Re: Everybody - Please read - Club consolidation

Hmmm, an anti-democratic moment. I think the bulk of the community will be largely unaffected by this decision in any huge way. The program will go on. That diminishes the need for consensus amongst the many. What's more important is the opinions of the much fewer number of people who will be signif...
