Car bras and Cones

Post by Darren Cole »

How friendly are cones to car bras. I want to get a bumper bra for track day use and want to use it for AX to avoid the cones marks. But will the cones tear it up?

I've thought about this myself.... and always come to the same question/answer....

at what speed 20, 30, 60mph can the material take a glancing hit, hang onto the cone as it becomes wedged (does this anyway) and not rip? AND, not create a rub mark itself....

I can't recall ever seeing one on the course before. Quite a few people use the lexon (sp?) clear materials, and with some elbow grease you can remove most marks from that.

I know Roger Ang (Red Porsche Boxster) runs a car bra @ autox (and possibly daily) - his is color matched to the car. He loves it. I never notice any cone marks on his car... but I don't notice most cone marks on any cars.

I've seen a few things rip off of cars by cones, but a car bra hasn't been one of them.

You could always do what I do & just paint your car orange... ;)

For my first four years I ran with a color matched bra from Speed Lingerie and it did very well protecting from cone hits. It won't fit with race tires due to interference when turning, otherwise I'd still have it on. They (supposedly) guarantee their product up to 150 mph.

Hmm.. I do gotta say that 95% of all the cones I hit are with the side of the car slightly before the rear wheel. Though every once and a while things just go wrong..

Hell no, haha. I spun that car within 35 feet the first time I drove it, and on good tires it's got more turn in than you could use. Over cooking corner entry was pretty unfixable though.

Uhm, Aaron, that's kind of mean! :unimpressed:

That should say:

Understeer - when NOT to listen to your codrivers!

The car simply wouldn't turn with the new wing on "full downforce" with our old alignment settings!

not to say I didn't hit a good 1000 cones on my own that *were* my fault, but that particular run wasn't one of them!! :gpower:

If I remember correctly, we thought the car was toed out, when it was in fact toed in for that run. Didn't work very well and Annie was :unimpressed:

I look at that picture and I can hear Annie screaming.
Kinda hot...

Then I think about Aaron screaming and the moment is gone.

Wow, those are some BIG cones!

We used one at the finish of one of our Team Blew, non CSCC events, we were desperately short of cones. It was cold, the plastic was stiff. One guy hit the big cone and put a serious dent in his fender. :( ... whatever can happen, will happen ...

Some SRT-4's don't understeer.....

Right Simanyi? Puertas? Kalman? Even Berry.....
I'm pretty sure that the number of spins Kalman has had in the SRT-4 exceeds the total number he has had in all other vehicles he has ever driven.

You just put 275's in the front and 225's in the rear... Put a 25mm rear sway on, and 650lbs springs.... Maybe a little toe out.
