Street Touring Ladies???
What car?
The civies are using Toyo R1R, Bridgestone RE-11, or Kumho XS. The Yoko AD08 and the new Hankook are also options. For larger cars, the Dunlop Direzza StarSpec is added to the mix.

Is this the rally guru Leon Styles?
If are planning to run a STi/Evo, I'd recommend the Dunlop Z1 Star Specs. Also heard the Kumho XS works well. The cars I know that tested the new Yokos the last few weeks, are switching back to Dunlops for the national championship next month.

I would tell your girl to get the Dunlops - half the price and arguably just as good as the Yoks.

Re: What tires work best for STL
Marco is running Dunlops and is happy with them. He also frequents our garage for alignments and balance which have been able to get him closer to us civics short of jumping in Lugods civic and beating his own time on his first run!!Steve Ekstrand wrote:Anybody know what Marco Vazquez is using now on his RS?
Leon, Team blew has a wealth of knowledge on subaru setup and is always willing to help. (plug: http://www.teamblewracing.com/forum/)
It would be nice to see another ST 2.5rs give the girls a run for their money and I know that you girl is not a slouch so the girls should get ready for a fight if this is the girl who i think it is!!!

Re: What tires work best for STL
but if you want to run in ambient temps over 90 or even 100 or under 60 or 50 degrees you should look for another tire... (duck :gpower: ) but otherwise Toyo may have what you want..Ken Motonishi wrote:Leon,

So wait.... Does that mean the tire to run at temps maybe as broad as between 50F and 100F would be the Toyo R1R???

Re: What tires work best for STL
Be the 2nd on the block with the new RS-3 Kook in 225/45/15 ... perhaps the next Cheater Tire. I was surprised that they weighed the same as the R1R in that size ... 22 lbs. Toyo's are often light; Kook's heavier

Re: What tires work best for STL
I suck at Auto cross, I seem to think its is rally and spend to much time sideways, then the workers yell at me for knocking the cones over:)
My gal drives well, we changed out the rear sway bar last weekend and her times droped 2 seconds on a 37 second course:) next are tires, Looking at either the Dunlops or Yokos, anyone know who has them in stock as we would like them for this weekend
thanks again

Re: What tires work best for STL
no... they're good when it is 65º-75º outside. If its 64º you risk cracking them, and anything north of 76º will net you a one shot run before they get too hot.Steve Ekstrand wrote:So wait.... Does that mean the tire to run at temps maybe as broad as between 50F and 100F would be the Toyo R1R???

Re: What tires work best for STL
I would suggest checking on Tire Rack's website to see if they have the tires in the Nevada warehouse and if they do, you could call in and see if they will ship California Overnight which would cost the same as UPS Ground but it should only take 1 day to arrive to your house by Friday.leon Styles wrote:I suck at Auto cross, I seem to think its is rally and spend to much time sideways, then the workers yell at me for knocking the cones over:)

Re: What tires work best for STL
Some tire places can make a call and get the tires in a hour or two. Where are you guys located?
Sometimes JLB Motorsports in Corona has some of our high performance tires in stock.
505 N Smith Ave
Corona, CA 92880-6968
(951) 734-4411
Do you know which size tires to get?
Suby's usually want a VERY large FRONT sway bar ... not a big rear bar. Suby's aren't "real" race cars and don't necessarily respond to the usual race car set-ups. Since they lean so much, thus taking away what little front camber they have, they respond well to the big front bar to keep the front end flatter. By big we mean around 27 to 32 mm. No use trying to reinvent the Suby set-up!
Eric Sung, VERY fast RS driver, use to do a lot of course tuning by changing his front and rear toe after his course walks. Especially adding more toe out in the rear for tighter course.
The Hankook RS-3 is also a very promising tire to consider

Re: What tires work best for STL
Since you "suck" at Auto Crossing, that means you need to start practicing. Just think that most of us get humbled every time we auto cross by our many National caliber drivers. I don't let that stop me from having a good time trying to get better ...
It's really great that you've taken the first step in admitting that you've got a problem!

They found with the AD08s while the grip was great on the first run, they fell off and were unpredictable the 2nd and 3rd laps.leon Styles wrote:Yup that me:) its for my Girlfriends Subaru 2.5rs, Looks like she is going to get the Yoko AD08 Why did they change back to the Dunlops??

There is also an $80 rebate on Dunlops until 8/8: http://dunloptires.com/cfmx/web/dunlopu ... /index.cfm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

maybe you could tell us about your current setup and we could offer some encouraging direction for those of us who have built this chassis before....
