Teens plunge dad's Porsche 70 feet
I'm sure you all read about this story this week. This is not too far from where I live.
It's amazing they walked away from that drop.
Here is the video coverage:

I like the this description:
15-year-old teen... had more lives than an alley cat and more luck than a Leprechaun wearing horse shoes and walking in an Irish field full of four leaf clovers on St Patrick's day

I'm guessing because it landed on the bottom, not nose in. Which is also probably why they walked away.Steve Ekstrand wrote:Air bags didn't go off??????

I would think even landing on all fours, you'd still pull forward negative G's. Seems like a lot of varieability on those little bombs. I know of at least one case of bags going off hitting the wall in a parking garage at less than 5mph. The kids rolled the car back and forth pushing it into the wall until they fired. Good kids.

i found our during my 3rd engine drop on my MR2, that a good sense of humor is an absolute necessity when you deal with cars that keep breakingBill Schenker wrote:As the Boxster flies? Will Kalman wrote:Wow, that's only a couple miles from my place!

Won't be surprised if there's a lawsuit against the construction company. There's no way you can have an excavation that deep without guardrails around it... There should be K-rails along the street, hand rails around the opening at a minimum.

Re: Teens plunge dad's Porsche 70 feet
from the video it looked like it had a chain link fence around it so no need for a hand rail, but I agree that it seems like there should have been a guard rail, like for example the concrete ones they use on the freeways... scary!Daniel Yeung wrote:Won't be surprised if there's a lawsuit against the construction company. Re: Teens plunge dad's Porsche 70 feet
it's a sad commentary on our legal system if the construction company has to pay up for that.
they can't foresee some kids going way too fast on the road, not being able to control the car, and flying through their fence.
what's next? if they installed the K barriers, but a kid drives an "OC style" raised F350 and plows through it, do you have the construction company put up a bigger barrier?
maybe a moat, with draw bridge..

Didn't you hear about the burglar that broke into someone's home and injured himself. Then ended up suing the homeowner for having kitchen knives where he came through the window?

Re: Teens plunge dad's Porsche 70 feet
Do a search for the Stella Awards if you really want to get upset at our system. Named for the stupid lady that spilled McDonalds coffee on herself and sued them and won. It just amazes me what juries will reward people for, especially criminals that get hurt during a criminal act. As far as I'm concerned, if you are doing something illegal, you just waived all your other rights.Mike Shin wrote:Didn't you hear about the burglar that broke into someone's home and injured himself. Re: Teens plunge dad's Porsche 70 feet
i think it's heavily dependent upon the person holding the purse.
jury think of the big deep purse held by franchises like McD, or.. WALMART.. and they happily hand out awards that are completely stupid.

I would be bitter that somebody undeserving got something.
But I can promise you that generally speaking juries get amped by handing out "free money".
