Need help with classing. Running a 2008 Toyota Yaris (base model). I've decided to make some changes:
-Adding a rear anti-roll bar (didn't come with one)
-Lowering springs (stock shocks)
-Cold Air intake (probably convert to short ram, not sure)
-Will be running some old Enkei Zoku wheels, 16x7 on Hankook R-S2 tires (Stock steelies are 15")

You can joing the other Yarises in CST, where you can even do more stuff, but there has to be a more competitive class for you. The class you would be in is CST, which also includes other cars with larger motors that have those same options for modifications. like Theo said, it might be wiser to stay in HS and run that class. Even putting springs on a car in AutoX tends to chuck you in with a class that has a much much wider pallate of mod options to pick from and most people that are competitive take advantage of them. Something to be aware of depending on how competitive you want to be.

i was looking through the rulebook, but couldn't find anything so i have resorted to posting here
i know a CF hood would put you in SM, but what about an aftermarket FRP (fiberglass) hood?

ST is the lowest National class you could run.

I figured it would be crazy for me to venture out of HS, but wanted to try out some things ;)

You know at a national level or even a good local level I don't think the Yaris can be competitive in HS. So, I'm not sure whats the difference between HS or ST or SMF or whatever. I would give consideration to doing what you like with that car to make it more fun on the street and on the track and don't sweat winning trophies. You can still have personal battles and find benchmarks to measure your development as a driver.

STU vs. SP(D)???
My son Jordan (#770) has just about finished putting my old Dry Lakes/Bonneville race car back together. It's a FWD 1985 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z, 2.2L. I've been going through the classes trying to decide which would be a better fit for this car and my son - both are new to AutoX. The headliner, carpets, passenger and rear seats have been removed (I can put the passenger and rear back in). Dash & Door panels are original. The motor is stock, but has a 1987 factory Intercooler setup and a "tweaked" ECM with aftermarket ignition. He just installed a rear bar (not a factory option at the time).
SP seems like a good fit, but I like the notion of non-R rated tires in the ST classes. Thus STU or DSP.
Any recommendations or suggestions?
Also, since I'll need to purchase new tires, having the class figured out may affect my choices. If you have any recommendations in the tire selection area, I'm all ears.

For a heavier car it's the Dunlop Z1 Star Spec ... outstanding and confidence inspiring with it's at the limit manners. A lot of new drivers don't seem to understand that you don't have to buy an oem size tire. Go Wider! It's all about more rubber on the ground. Don't worry about the wheel width. Just use a Tire Calculator to keep the diameter close. On some cars, depending on their 2nd gear, it's a benefit to go a bit shorter or taller.

Its generally slower than the national ST classes even though the prep level is much higher because the cars aren't usually nationally prepped competitive cars. The problem is that things like carpet and headliner are required in ST, SP, and even SM categories. In SCCA classing you'd be in the appropriate Prepared class which is a lot of mods and slicks.

One CRX might make it's second appearance at El Toro next month. Not all that fast, but faster than my Yaris (as of last outing together).

How fast is not the question---how does it compete in a class is the SCCA question. CRX is the new "overdog" in GP---and nearly everything is legal in the Prepared classes (body, suspension, interior, etc.) except the restriction on limited prep engines for GP.Jesus Saucedo wrote:... I'm not sure how many people may remember these, but would anyone happen to know what class a Legends racer would end up in? I thought it might make for an interesting autoX car...I imagine it's in one of the mod classes considering it's purpose built.

A picture is attached for those curious people...the cars are single seaters usually propelled by a 1200CC motorcycle engine.

There was a proposal to allow them in F-mod, but I'm not sure it gained any traction - seems like a good fit to me though...
Otherwise, I believe it would end up in B-mod because of the motorcycle engine.

I was talking about YOUR car! hehe. The CRX has been running since I bought it. Just don't drive it much. I'll probably have to redo my exhaust, as my VTEC (engine is B16A, DOHC VTEC) sounds super terrible and car doesn't move much faster when it's on. I'm suspecting the cat. I will also be working on the suspension a little bit as time permits. The PDF on the SCCA website hasn't been updated since last march, and for Hyundai just has one entry that says "all models: HS". It seems to me that the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe should be classed in something other than HS, does anyone know what it's classed as for 2010, or if there is a 2010 PDF somewhere that I couldn't find?
