Just for kicks I decided to throw these two videos side by side. I'm driving the AutoX Corvette and my buddy is driving the road race video in a Corvette. Willow Springs is the fastest track in the west. On my autocross video, I don't even get out of 2nd. gear. Looks sure can be deceiving.
Watch in full screen. HD.

yea....some of that disparity is the lense...but the part you can't see is the part where you're in 4th after 4b and coming downhill into 5, then light-as-a-feather as you crest over 6 turned further in than you think you should be so your weightless car will slide into the inside at the 'kink'...after that, have to wait till you see God first before letting off coming into turn 8...
I love autoX. but if riding bikes at track days taught me anything, they're just a different kind of thrill. }:)
I do suspect that driving a car there isn't quite as entertaining as biking it...something tells me a miata would be pretty anemic and I'd get tired of it. A Z06 on the other hand...

That be a no. If you're driving your car at 10/10ths then WSIR is not a boring track. When I ran SRFs you would be foot to the floor from 5 until turn 1 with just a lift at turn-in for 9. Spec Miata is somewhat similar.I do suspect that driving a car there isn't quite as entertaining as biking it...something tells me a miata would be pretty anemic and I'd get tired of it.

The autocross was more interesting to watch, which I think was Steve's intent to demonstrate.

A Chasecam Dashware video overlay on both vids would have made it a lil more fair tho ;).

Re: AutoX vs. HPDE video (road racing)
I LOVE this video! Thanks!
I have been doing track days (road racing) instead of autocross for the last 10 months or so. It was 4 or 5 steps back for me when I got back on the autocross yesterday. I could not push my car. So used to taking it easy at 80-90%.
Doing them both I have to say that autocross kicks ass. You all are not missing out on anything. I do have to admit I really dig the not having to pick up cones part at a track.
