Yes, Ron and are good friends. I was his backup in Chicago for '08 show. It was funny, too, because I had a Canon G9 with Ron's separate Canon flash unit that's as big as the G9! Needed the extra light to reach the stage for the unveilings.Doug Kott wrote:Bob,
That whole situation at AutoByTel was brutal. Sorry you got caught up in that. Do you know Ron Perry? Ron and I are veterans of many photo shoots!
Aaron,
Sad news about Toyota's chief test driver. I'd never met him, but knew of him. Regardless of who was at fault, it sounded like a classic case of going too fast on public roads.

I was laid off along with two of the three video guys and the managing editor. They demoted the managing editor to road test editor and eliminated his position. Can't say more than that on a public internet forum. It was a short but sweet run; we had a great group of people, were in good with the automakers and were free to write honestly and fairly about the vehicles we tested. And I know exactly what you mean about how certain cars make up for the many dull and average vehicles. Audi R8, how I love thee. :heyes: Chrysler Sebring, how I don't :barf:
The worst part is still being out of work and I'm not limiting myself to automotive writing jobs—any staff writing or editing job is worth considering.
