My one and only clean run on Sunday:

As always, I had a great time, and I feel well prepared for my first trip to Nationals in a few weeks!

Here's my Sunday best, 58.016
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQyohqTJ ... tube_gdata" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Note the novel 11-and-1 hand positioning, the lumberjack finesse entering the Chicago Box, and the trademark Corvette seat-flops-forward-under-braking at about 0:48.
My first run, with big slide through left-hand sweeper! I've spent years working on the release-and-catch recovery!

My first run (Miata - 60.324) and my last run (RX-8 - 60.450) in SK2:
http://youtu.be/ArfM6e3QzCg
Broke the endlink mount on the driver's side front control arm on the Miata halfway through my 2nd run and switched cars for my 3rd and 4th runs. Thanks to Jeff Stuart for letting me finish out the day in his RX-8 and Mike Kazmierczak for helping me unhook my sway bars.

Nice vids, Leonard! How'd you like the RX-8 compared to the Miata?Leonard Cachola wrote:My first run (Miata - 60.324) and my last run (RX-8 - 60.450) in SK2:

I was on a comparison test ages ago with a Lexus LS 400 and Infiniti Q45, and through the twisties I was impressed how near-neutral the handling of the Lexus was, despite Sta-Puft spring rates. Turns out it was because of a broken front endlink! Another time, we had a Golf GTI that seemed waaaay too stiff and jouncy in the front; past GTIs had felt supple by comparison. Here, it turned out that the car prep agency had forgotten to remove the front spring isolators that they use for shipping (hard plastic things that look like open-ended brass knuckles that clip onto the coils).

Thanks, Doug! I was deliberating on whether or not to include the RX-8 lap, but I thought it a good comparison since I got almost the same time in both. Drove one at a ZoomZoom Live event, one on R-comps at an Evo School, a couple as an instructor, and this was the second time in Jeff's. Love the steering and the rotary hum! The RX-8 has been one of my favorites to autocross because it handles like a bigger Miata — even if I can't drive it any faster than my Miata.Doug Kott wrote:

Sucks, too, as I'm sure you would've improved on your first time. Meanwhile I drove like an idiot (hard to look ahead with your head wedged up your posterior) and improved just enough for second.Leonard Cachola wrote:Broke the endlink mount on the driver's side front control arm on the Miata halfway through my 2nd run and switched cars for my 3rd and 4th runs. Re: August 14th Autocross Sunday Pictures/Videos
Yeah... I would have LOVED to have finished the run (2nd run) that I stopped for a downed cone on. I was 2/3rds of the way through the course and was .4ths ahead of my 1st lap according to the data. I thought about ignoring it, but didn't want to get charged for the cone. Oh well...Kurt Ra wrote: Sucks, too, as I'm sure you would've improved on your first time. Yeah, that was before we started autocrossing... Only went there once, very unlikely we will get it back.Mike Simanyi wrote:You do, but Atwater apparently still isn't available...Justin Tsang wrote:I wish we have a site like El Toro in norcal
