Since there's nothing on the tube but Irene, seeing the reporters out in the big winds got me to thinking: So what would be the best highway vehicle to venture out in a hurricane? Something practical, M1A1's need not apply. Would it be a 1-ton van or pickup, carrying a max load of cinder blocks or cement bags for ballast? Or do you cheat the wind with a hardtop Corvette or something? Something in between?
Since I know I'll get weird suggestions, I'm going to define 'practical' as a vehicle you're likely to see in 10 minutes of freeway driving.

Ah Bill, most of us are in the metropolitan parts of SoCal. In 10 minutes of freeway driving you're likely to see ANYTHING! Including military vehicles going to Pendelton.Bill Martin wrote: Since I know I'll get weird suggestions, I'm going to define 'practical' as a vehicle you're likely to see in 10 minutes of freeway driving.

Got it in one!
How about an Ariel Atom? Would the open space frame be of any benefit in the high winds? Besides the obvious disadvantage against flying debris...

Something as small and heavy as possible. Really dense. Maybe a Mercedes 560SL hardtop.
