Can't say I wouldn't instinctively do the same (never been in that position), but it's interesting that even someone with track experience, he let go of the steering wheel and blocked his face, rather than keep full control of the vehicle with hands on the steering wheel. The car stayed straight... but in the slowmo, you can see how much that wheel turns with his hands off of it.
