No, the R-Spec and Track models are the same, the R-Spec just has cruise control, bluetooth, and other assorted convenience items stripped out.Jeff Ringer wrote:your thinking hyundai with cruize and not the lsd? :mrt:
you're older than that? I thought only asian ppl looked young, hahaJeff Ringer wrote: i did own a 944s2 from age 22-29 and it was a great experience
Sure it is. ;)Quoc-Viet Dang wrote:Jeff Ringer wrote:
Kind of back on topic... just fyi: an SL55 AMG also qualifies for HS.
KJ, the mechanical LSD was an option in 1999, most cars don't have it because typical Porsche buyers choose leather over LSD, and carbon interior pieces over carbon brakes. You can install the stock part to any 1999, but newer 996 Carrera (2000-2004) cannot use the LSD diff (not legal in a-stock) unless it is a 40th Anniversary 2004 Carrera, this car came with LSD (all of them).KJ Christopher wrote:All of them or was it an option? Hey Jeff,Jeff Stuart wrote:I'm testing a Track tomorrow. I know the R-Spec is technically better at autocrossing due to the decreased weight, but I don't drive anywhere without using cruise control and would not be a very happy camper without it. I'd want the other options too, since this is going to be my daily driver as well.Annie Bauer wrote:Jeff, make sure you drive a R Spec or Track model - the others don't have Brembos and also don't have a limited slip, and the car is useless without one! The R Spec is essentially just a stripper Track model, so the only difference is the options (and associated weight).Jeff Stuart wrote:I'm pretty confident I don't want a FWD car.
I'm going to test drive a Genesis Coupe tomorrow night, so we'll see how that goes.
I do have a question for you: A few of the reviews I've read/watched have mentioned that the flywheel is too large and the engine is too slow to rev down. While not a huge issue for autocrossing, I'm wondering what you're opinion is?
Thanks for the info Doug!Doug Kott wrote: Hey Jeff,
We tested one at R&T a while back, and the ECU does hold the E-throttle open more noticeably between shifts than in a lot of other cars. It's an emissions thing, as a suddenly closed throttle and fuel still in the cylinders makes for a nasty spike of unburned hydrocarbons. I didn't care for it much, but others on staff didn't seem to mind. Best to test-drive the car and see if it's an issue for you.
Whatever your pick, I like that you're leaning toward rear drive!

It falls under "Mercedes Not Otherwise Classified" - got the email confirmation from SCCA a while back when I was asking about the SL500.Bob Beamesderfer wrote:Sure it is. ;)Quoc-Viet Dang wrote:Jeff Ringer wrote:

Thanks for the link Leonard, good read. There is also a really long thread on scca forums (http://sccaforums.com/forums/1/393134/ShowThread.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) about it that I read through. They kind of go a bit off topic for awhile arguing about the legality of the camber bolts, but it was also a good read.Leonard Cachola wrote:There's a thread over at Miata.net about the Genesis Coupe - one of the replies is from an owner who autocrosses:

That also allows this in HS:Quoc-Viet Dang wrote:It falls under "Mercedes Not Otherwise Classified" - got the email confirmation from SCCA a while back when I was asking about the SL500.Bob Beamesderfer wrote:Sure it is. ;)Quoc-Viet Dang wrote:
The new SL65 AMG Black Series coupe features a carbon-fiber fixed roof, front fenders, hood, trunk lid, and front and rear aprons. With the absence of retractable roof hardware, the car is more than 550 pounds lighter than the standard SL. AMG placed a modified version of the 6.0-liter AMG V12 engine that now delivers 670 PS (493 kW) and 1,000 N·m (740 lb·ft) of torque. This is the same 6.0L engine as used in the previous SL65 model with remapped timing and fuel curves to produce 58 PS more. Torque remains the same, as the previous model, due to transmission limitations. This engine has been labeled as the engine with the largest output that will be made by AMG. Its twin turbochargers are 12 percent larger, passages for intake air and the turbo wastegates have been modified, and the intake air intercooler is 30 percent more efficient. The result is 0-to-60 mph (97 km/h) acceleration of 3.8 seconds, and an electronically limited top speed of 198 mph (319 km/h).
However, it is not eligible for Divisional or National events based on that listing.Quoc-Viet Dang wrote: It falls under "Mercedes Not Otherwise Classified" - got the email confirmation from SCCA a while back when I was asking about the SL500.
I'm not a fan of the G35, but the 350z is still in the picture. I went and test drove a 350Z NISMO today during lunch, it was niceMark DeShon wrote:What happened to the 350z/G35 idea?

Tire killer. No camber, weak LSD, heavy and 19" rear tires $$$$ on the Nismo.Jeff Stuart wrote:I'm not a fan of the G35, but the 350z is still in the picture. I went and test drove a 350Z NISMO today during lunch, it was niceMark DeShon wrote:What happened to the 350z/G35 idea?

You do realize a 350z has only slight more room in the trunk than a Miata, right?Jeff Stuart wrote:I'm not a fan of the G35, but the 350z is still in the picture.

This from a guy who drives a Cougar. By choice...Jeff Stuart wrote:Leonard Cachola wrote:You do realize a 350z has less room in the trunk than a Miata, right?Jeff Stuart wrote:I'm not a fan of the G35, but the 350z is still in the picture.![]()
Yeah... I guess I've talked myself out of that guideline. But I don't want a Miata for the same reason as a G35 and a Mustang, just don't like the looks.

Yeah, I saw that. It looks pretty cool, but Toyota has stated that it won't be available until early 2012.Ron Tsumura wrote:What about that new thing from Toyota/Subaru, FT-86 or something coming out soon?
