Just change the +1 wheel and tires in stock class to 200 TW and this is the conversation:

Newbie - "Wow, you are fast"
'Shoe - "Thanks. I have nice shocks and 200 TW BFGs, Dunlops or Hankooks. Tires are the most important part of the car because they contact the road."
Newbie - "How much are the shocks and 200 TW tires?"
'Shoe - "The shocks are an investment but you can get them after you get some seat time. The tires are affordable and you can rotate them. You can change wheel sizes 1" if needed so you can get tires that work on your car"
Newbie - "Really? I wanted new wheels."
'Shoe - "You could probably get two years on a set of Dunlops or Hankooks running locals, and they are cheaper to boot"
Newbie - "Really?

Underlying message - buy a good set of affordable tires, and you can be in the ballpark. Next year get shocks and wheels. Simple. Any newbie can understand it.

let the treadwars begin...

During 2012, Hankook Tire changed the Uniform Tire Quality Grade (UTQG) Treadwear rating of their Ventus R-S3 Z222 Extreme Performance Summer tire.
...
When the Ventus R-S3 Z222 was introduced in spring of 2009, Hankook assigned the 140 Treadwear rating to match the UTQG Treadwear rating required by existing competition rules. However subsequent Hankook wear data revealed the tire line provided equivalent wear to its predecessor (Ventus R-S2) and earned the same 200 Treadwear rating.
:lol:

perhaps we'll find out soon enough what the real treadwear rating on an A6 is?

Very few people I know thought it was really a 140. The assumption being the 140 figure was picked by marketing.

Years ago Toyo changed the tread wear rating of the RA1 from 60 to 100 ... rightfully so, because they were lasting so long
