I believe that one instructor run with you made him retire from the sport!

I don't recall who was my first instructor......the small club I belonged to in Lethbridge Alberta (LSCC) had only about 45 members and, understandably, it was quite informal.....but we sure had some fun....and it left me warped/addicted for life!

However I do recall who my first Evo instructors were about 8 years ago: Ron Bauer, Glenn Hernandez and Nick Leverone.....Ron and Glenn, of course, still run in the Seattle area but I haven't heard of/from Nick in a long time.....Massachetts or area I think? In fact Glenn was in the Calgary area teaching another Evo School just a few weeks ago with Ann Hollis I believe.

Haha, Tom told me at that practice, "You are great through the first three quarters of every turn then you just give up." I think when I figure out what that means i'll get a good chunk of time.

Grant Byers back in 1991 with me driving a 1991 Forst Escort GT at an event at the old Ford Aeroneutronic facility in Newport Beach. I had to go into work on a Saturday (I worked at Ford) and saw what was going on. I signed up and, without any course walk, made my first run. I was IMMEDIATELY assigned Grant as my instructor via unanimous request from all the course workers. He spent the next few runs yelling LEFT, RIGHT, BRAKE, GAS GAS GAS!

Not taking advantage of the STI's cheater differentials? The last part of a turn is where they'll do their magic rotating the car and pulling you out of a corner on throttle. At least that's what I felt in Max's STI when stock. It's probably better at doing that now.

Oh, i'm on the gas. I think he means when i get on the gas at the end of corners i give up on trying to stay near the cones.. I think..

George Doganis. My first event, was lot 8 cal speedway. I asked Mako to find me an instructor, George drives my car as we approach the the big turn around sweeper, i say out loud "No way". then thru the sweeper and the rest of the course my jaw was on the floor. George then rides with me on my run, He tells Mako and I "Tom is not afraid to get close to the cones"
Mako tell mes "Hey your leading Novice class" I come back with" What does that mean??"

I have been hooked ever since Thanks George and Mako.

My first instructor was Tom Smith at the No$ practice Jan 2001. But the person I learned the most from was David Avard who was the best Novice Coordinator we've ever had.

Tom Berry rode with me once in 2006, Robert Puertas rode with me once in 2000-2001 I think.....does that count?

Well I'm not as old as Rick Brown.

My first inscructor was Paul Bulnell in 1974. He told me "A good autocross drive knows not when to go fast, but when to go slow." To this day I'm still learning!

First instructor: Kevin Dietz @ Evo School about 2.5 years ago or so.

Kevin: *hopping in the driver's seat* "O, it's an auto, I was looking for the clutch... at least you get to practice left foot braking."

I've learned a lot from pretty much everyone I've met @ autox & otherwise, I'm still slow, but it's still fun. My long term instructor over the past couple years has been Jonathan Hartendorp, who also said "O, it's an auto; that's okay, my 240 was an auto, too."

Then pretty much every time I see him again: "When are you changing out to stick?" Well, I think that's what most people ask when they see me, o well.

Coupe, but yes an auto, which is why I bought the SE-R three months later.

Richard Bowman, after watching me get lost twice in one run, "you need help". Carol's first instructor was Mr. Bill Schenker. Mako drove our car later, lit the front brakes on fire!!!!! We got hooked on AutoX.

Haven't seen Richard in a while...

I'd like to defend myself in regards to the screaming and slapping of hands. I probably screamed because when you have a helmet on it is very difficult to hear someone talking to you. In regards to hand slapping, I tell all my students in the beginning that hand control is a pertinent part of autocrossing and that if I see them losing their perspective on hand control - I will slap their hands. I normally get my point across.

My first instructor was Rod Bean at a Lotus West School in Irvine Meadows. I drove that 1965 Mustang monstrosity and all Rod did was drive it with me hanging on for dear life. Not a good way to learn how to autocross.

No defense necessary here. I meant it in the nicest of ways. It was immensely helpful!

I've been trying desperately to think who my first instructor was - I'm going to go with Norm or Toby!

First Evo school instructor was Tom Kotzian and Kevin Dietz... awesome

Last instructor was Tom Berry... humbling
