The lot that Mako marked with the 1600' measurement is in better shape than the lots near the drag strip. But not by much.

The problem with the overflow lot is that it butts right up against homes. That's a no go.

Not that it is very likely, or that people would want to travel, but I know where a 53 Acre asphalt pad is. And no one near by to complain about noise...

You can't just put that out there without some more clues (if you aren't going to name it).

For other reference, Kansas City just lost their main site (Truman Sports Complex, where the Chiefs and Royals lose), partly due to refurbishment (they are making it a prettier place, so that hopefully the 12 fans won't notice that the teams suck) and partly due to a change in management (old site manager who liked us retired, new guy is a p%$#).

There are several large sites, but the UAW controls two of them (no non-domestic cars, or cars not made by UAW employees), and then there are all the cars backing up on those lots due to lack of sales. There best possible site is 200' x 600' or 300' x 500', and was on the chopping block until the economy tanked (they were planning to build a Hard Rock casino, but now that is on hold).

Here in Topeka, we have a few small lots (400' x 300'), and HPT, which we don't have enough cars to afford that site (due to requiring an ambulance).

As I was announcing today, I mentioned how lucky we are here in our region. This is a good case in point. AAA Speedway seems stable for now, but the encroachment of homes in the area could be a problem in the distant future. El Toro is at greatest risk, but the downturn in the housing market will stall the "Great Park Housing Project" from going anywhere soon. Yes, we are very fortunate.

we are fortunate no doubt -2008 was way too much fun!!

realize the options are always limited

i was in austin spring of 07 for three months when i started autox.

they have two small/medium tracks 'driveway' and 'harris hill' .. they set up the autox on the track along with using one or two other decent lots.. its fun to be on a real track with perfect pavement , curbs etc. el toro gives some of that feel and lets face it, the pro solo has to be one of the best events in the nation . . i personally would like to autox at a track once per year to change it up. i saw this once using 1/3 or 1/4 of button willow. did cscc use to do this at willow? willow is a hike and i also realize national drivers want to be in a lot similar to what the nats and divisional events are held .. but once a year would be fun

btw in austin everything is within 30 miles which is so nice . however i would never think of living in tx

downtown los angeles .. is dodge stadium a no go? good lot or no ? anything else

space in the Long Beach where they do the drift finals looks huge but that is off limits, right?

there is also that home depot center in carson which is fairly central and cooler in the summer.. was there 5 years ago but forgot what the lot is like - its a fairly new facility

We ran a few years at BW. Really fun weekend events. The two we staged some pretty cool BBQ parties on Saturday night. Would love to do that again now that our family has the fifth wheel trailer and could camp out.

It was tough to cone down the course for solo speeds. Sometimes coning down the course to proper speed actually felt less safe than going faster because you created heavy braking and sharper spin creating elements. But obviously we have to. And SCCA requirements for defining the course layout requires and insane amount of cones and setup work. Also courses need to be pre-approved to get a sanction.

We run the East loop only. We used to share with Papa Cal Club when they staged a school on the West loop. That made the rental affordable. We haven't been able to work that deal for several years. I have suggested we try to work in partnership with a track day group willing to run just the West loop and split costs. But no interest shown by the club reps for that approach. It would be sticky, tough to plan and present some risks.

Maybe Oli can help us come up with a creative solution to get us back partnering on an event at BW with the club racers. 3.2 miles is a long course even in a vette. Running just the West or East loops isn't that bad for some purposes.

The other problem at Anaheim Stadium was the police thought it was a great opportunity to raise huge amounts of cash and harass car enthusiasts.

Makes since to have an ambulance if you're going to run a track day in a parking lot like the marquee clubs like to do...

I here they have been looking for a little extra money lately. Maybe they would be more willing to renegotiate.

Attempt to stage a charity event. When refused, go to the local paper and explain how you were trying to do good for the community but the UAW seeking billions in bailout won't let an American made Toyota on GM's parking lot. Perfect project for Julie..... Autocrosses for Starving Crippled Children..... Timmy? Little Timmy..... We're trying to save you....

Some of the people there certainly deserved the harassment. I think it was Will who had an AE86 drift completely around his corner station. IIRC, Renee very politely :D asked that person to leave.

Hollywood Park also brought out a lot of that crowd as well. I remember a Touring (think mid '90's attempt to replicate European sedan racing in this country, and very loud) Honda Accord that accelerated full throttle at me and two other workers on two consecutive runs.

I think that was the sad sack I encountered today on Colorado Blvd. I swear if that idiot in his slammed buzzbomb accord had cut me off one more time I would have considered him Venison steaks and cleared the road. Don't mess with me and my Bullwinkle Plow.

I work for a contractor at the site, if someone wanted some info, they can contact me. I'm not putting any contact info on a message board.

But here is a google map view
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&g ... 7&t=h&z=14" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Like I said, it's way out in BFE. I doubt anyone down in the valley would want to drive this far for an autocross. And I'm not sure the facility would allow an autocross there either. Motor Trend has tested there before, so I know they have allowed at least one other entity to use their facility.

Whoa  What is that, like a 4-mile oval? I bet you could just about get a Veyron up to top speed on that thing.

Is it fairly new? The whole thing disappears when you zoom out, so I assume it wasn't there when some of the images were taken.

Those images are 2+ years old. Some of the facility buildings are missing and some of the venues are not there that were put in within the last two years. The facility as a whole is just over 4 years old.
