No, they didn't. I have know idea what that means when it comes time for me to renew. Family is one payment, right? I figured I'd deal with it then.

I'm too stupid to figure out how to move to a family membership from an existing spousal membership. Forget that, I can't even figure out how to join online.

HELP!!!
Patience patience patience, even I registered on line.
Yeah, but your one (albeit large) person. Trying to add a family after having a single membership isn't possible without picking up the phone. No matter how much they say it is.

Any changes such as Region and such must be done over the phone.

The whole family is set.... And still CalClubbers.... Arg....

Nice Kansas girls, always a pleasant call. I just try to do things online and such, because its not like they are overstaffed there. I'm sure their time is better spent than talking with me on the phone for 15 minutes.

The way to change a Spouse Membership to a Family;

1) Download the form from SCCA. org or ask me to bring one to an event

2) Fill out the form

3) Check 'family' on the form, and write 'changing from Spouse to Family'

4) Include a check for the difference between a Spouse and Family Membership (15 dollars in '08)

5) Mail in

Your done!

BTW, check this out in the rule book, page 257

III. JUNIOR DRIVER ELIGIBILITY
A. SCCA member. Membership may be waived for first event.

Thanks Warren, I got it handled.
Interesting about the first event waiver in light of our current mandatory SCCA membership for all drivers. That sounds due for a change?

I would think so. But the rule makes sense to get more Juniors to try, particularly spur of the moment participants. LA only charges 5 for a Weekend Pass so It's so cheap anyway, why not grab the extra coverage?

The waiver REALLY makes sense on something like LA's Junior practice, where you have extra Karts, waiting to be tried out (at least that is what I heard).

The consequences of living on a dirt water little town in a jerk water part of the country is that San Diego can't see the forest for the trees. 'Deliverance' by the sea, instead of on a river.

I regiistered my wife at the same time. although she has not raced yet. I am holding out hope that some day she will.

In the mean time, giving a little extra to SCCA.

Yeah.... We really liked the idea of charging $5 and encouraging newbies to try it out. But we ran into the problem of making it so cheap that we created a disincentive to join at all and the problems that created.

The only reason I joined SCCA was because I couldn't be gate chief otherwise. I think raising the weekend rate was a good idea.

Both Salina and Kansas regions charge $10 for regional membership. Single, spouse, family. All the same fee. Salina even gives you a free event every year.

Of course, that's how we have nearly 300 members here in Kansas Region. It is the home region for the main office (I don't call, I just drive over there :)), and cheap, so when some one needs to join SCCA, they join us. We did take a hit when SCCA cancelled Rally, as the 15 members of ProDrive didn't renew, among others.

Ya, I have always wondered about the disincentive issue.

In San Diego the issue we have with the 15 dollar charge is practices. Assuming a person is not coming back on Sunday, they pay a certain amount for the practice (let's say 45), then 15 for the SCCA, then (in San Diego) 5 dollars for a Region days pass, making the TOTAL cost for a first timer prohibitive.

I always liked LA's 5 dollar charge. I was going to use it as an example of what San Diego could do. So much for that plan.

What is LA doing with the extra 10 dollars that does not go to the SCCA for a weekend membership? In San Diego it stays with the host club to make up for the SCCA, non-SCCA price differential we used to have. Your money goes to the Region, right?

The solo part of the region keeps it.

There are other solutions. $10 is a compromise. Charging $15 but giving solobucks (a credit back) towards an event entry if the person joins is another.

The committee didn't get real creative with this decision. But there was a lot going on and a lot of changes, I think they went for simplicity. I've long since been kicked out of the inner sanctum, so not my doing.

It's a back-handed compliment. You may rant and rave but for the good of the club. Glenn stirs the pot.

Okay, so I didn't actually have family, it turns out. Called today to add Kencey and now we are family and all expire at the same time. And it wasn't necessarily a screw up. Turns out that me + spouse was a cheaper alternative, so they just did that for me. Anyway, now have a family membership with new cards and expiration dates on the way.
