Big squares of concrete.

I have no idea what it'll drain like, but porta-poties and cones have no trouble being blown across it... Hopefully the patch job they did is as good as claimed. Atwater, which is in much better shape, still developed some puddles and had issues with sheeting water when it was raining hard enough...

Anyone know if Dodge Vipers are any good in the rain? :unimpressed:

I've experienced some really nasty weather there before. It will have to be pretty bad to top previous low points. The key is to not be sliced in half by the 10x10 corrugated metal sheets coming off the old hangars and blowing across the lot, not to mention rampaging porta-potties. I remember one event where all the cones (doubled-up, too) blew across the lot to one corner, only to blow back across to the other side a few minutes later as we watched in amazement, shivering in the shelter of our vehicles. So much fun, which is why I go every year.....!

Gary,

Go pick up a Porsche C4S. New one is $102k with a few options but you could get a smoking deal at the auctions as Paul Whitehead has been keeping me up to date. 996 GT3 are really coming down on price; maybe I'll get one soon.

Thanks for the info guys, can't wait to drive 13 hrs for 3 days of rain without wets.

Yeah, I bet it'd be double the fun repairing TWO ends of the drivetrain instead of just one!

We have Hoosier wets for sale that we could bring to Wendover!

Yeah, thanks for reminding me, Mako, I had protectively forgotten about that one. Borrowed RWD ASP cars are not real good in the rain :barf:

We would have run that heat in the dry, but right then there was the usual mysterious ProSolo timing delay, lasting just long enough to let the cloudburst (with some lightning in the distance) start while I was sitting at the starting line. J-Rho was working the course right then holding an umbrella, when he suddenly felt an electric charge in that arm(!). He quickly threw the umbrella to the ground - an experience he will probably never forget.

And, yes, 996 GT3 prices are continuing to crater. Unfortunately, the stupidest purchase I have ever made. Personally, I think the latest 997 Carrera S would be excellent in SS, wet or dry. Once upon a time, James Gunn and I toyed with the idea of bringing a rain car instead of rain tires to Nationals - still not a bad idea.

Oh-oh, just realized we can't talk umbrellas in a Cal Club discussion....

Hey Gary,

The Viper should be a breeze compared to AS, where we have a myriad of turbo AWD machines at altitude in the wet and only a few of us going to Wendover in normally aspirated RWD cars. Are we dedicated or do we need to see the shrink

How long does it take it for .03" of rain to dry with 50mph winds???

If I go... I'm not worried about rain. I do hate the wind though driving up. Or trying to sleep... :(

Gee, when do I make the call as to what car to take??? STI or S2K??

50% chance of rain or higher, then switch?

I actually do have un-mounted Hoosier wets for the Subie. But you need puddles/standing water for those right??

I don't have good R comp rubber for the STI though. Only hard Kumho's, 80% worn. All of my recent investment has been for wheels/tires for the S2K

I could drive one of them up for you ... so you have both in your quiver ... perhaps you could have Tire Rack deliver mounted Hoosiers for the STI to your Wendover hotel ... just kidding. I'll be at pleasant El Toro ...

Hmmm.. Both cars, thats an idea. Install a trailer hitch on the STI and tow the S2K, :)

The darn Weather forecast keeps changing and changing and changing... Sat. is looking fine now with Thunder storms the day before for the ride there, and Sun. 10% chance of rain.

Low wind predictions too, thankfully Steve's comments about wind are not showing in the forecast....

Just kidding about the towing commment....

:ibrightdea: I'll tell you what Pete. I'll drive your Sti up , you drive the S2000, you pay for gas ,tires, hotel and my entry fee.

Then you can choose which car to drive that day.

I'm only seeing bad winds on Friday and Friday night. The good... It makes Sat AM surface dry if it does deluge on Friday. Wendover is so low in humidity and there is always some wind even if its only 5-7mph. Total storm prediction Friday-Sunday is less than an inch. I can't imagine you're going to see all three heats impacted. And if Sunday is improving it takes the Challenge issues out of play. I don't think you even need rains.

Now I just have to decide if I'm going. Robert got his first ride in an ambulance this week. We spent 8:30pm to 7:30am at the hospital with him. He's fine. He has a bad case of StrepA. His tonsils/glands swelled up so much they touched in the middle blocking his airway. Steroids and antibiotics means 36hours later he's running around the house like a banshee wanting to go to the park.... Is he fine to travel? I don't know. And Stacey and I are still wiped out. Tonight we discuss. I may not know til Thursday morning. Right now... call it 70% chance we're not going.

I'm dying to see how the work WILL and I did on the car improves things.

Oh damn! Now I am too! Will, Marshall, Toby and I must have spent 20 minutes talking about setup stuff for your car last event, haha.
