IIRC it was $1250 to $1800 each depending on how many were on there, but I could be wrong.

Probably more with higher fuel costs now ... but that also effects ones own fuel costs. At 20 mpg, it's going to cost at least $600 for the 3,000 mile round trip, plus a motel out and back. Add another $100.
We got less then 10 mpg last year towing ... so, over $1,200 for gasoline alone.

Guess which car is his.

Personally, I liked the 6000lbs van loaded with 9-10+ sets of tires (and other stuff) hung out over the back.

Wow, what were you towing and with what were you towing it? I got 15mpg towing the Escort out with Art's basic gas-powered F-150!
And we did the speed limit the whole way *cough*.

Henry's fast thirsty V-10 rig ... maybe 8 mpg? That was before the rear air dam ...

I think it was $1,200 last time. We already have 6-7 interested, Mihai says we need 9 to try to get a deal on a transporter he had lined up.
Benefits:
- Get there fresh and focused on driving.
- Cost is somewhat offset by saving on gas, food, lodging and lost work days on the way out there and back (also saves on depreciation on newer cars).
- Main reason is to not waste the trip because the car breaks, or gets in an accident on the way out there.
- Saves wear and mileage on the car (or tow rig/trailer) and tires.
- Don't have to readjust the car from a street to a track set up.
- If the car breaks during the event you can still get home.
- For those driving out in modded cars, it easier on the body - Max had numb privates after the long drive!
Last time we did it, the transported cars brought back 10 national trophies - so something was working!
Let's say we give it until the Div before we open in up to the SF or LV folks to fill any spots left? Should we start a new thread with a tentative sign-up priority list?

A new thread is probably a good Idea if you want the most people to know.
I just checked on google maps
Rancho Cucamonga to Heatland Park
Northern Route through Denver: 1522 mi
Southern Route 40-54-335: 1478 mi
hmmm.... I was under the impression that the southern route was longer
For comparison purposes:
San Diego: 117 mi
Atwater: 316 mi
Wendover: 592 mi
Packwood: 1136 mi

Is this the last year they're having it in Topeka?
That drive sounds killer...

I took the Northern route home last year, had to make a detour to drop Jennifer off at the airport, I thought the N route sucked. Sure it was nice to be on interstate the entire time, but that could have backfired had I hit rush hour, and the hills and cold sucked. I also used more fuel, due to the higher speed on the interstate, and it took longer.
So I will be making my 10th trip this year on the trusty old southern route.

Northern route for me from San Diego
1,616 mi – about 23 hours 14 mins
Southern route
1,531 mi – about 23 hours 26 mins
Strange, I was always under the "everyone knows" impression that the southern route was slightly longer in also distance.

This is how you get two race cars half way across the country. There's 16tires/wheels not attached to cars/trailers mixed in there too.

Maybe. Probably. With the firing of the track manager and a possibly more friendly track manager, and the right amount of KY ($$$), they might return to HPT for the foreseeable future.
It sure would be nice if they would repave it with the correct asphalt (the contractor cheated and he didn't use the specified grade on the solo lot. "There's nothing special about the asphalt out there. It's just a parking lot.").
Alternate sites may be even farther away, or they might be closer. The range based on possible sites is probably 1200-1900 miles.
