Do the radio folks need to call in cones, etc. for x-runs? If not, maybe x-run folks should remove their numbers.
Then how do we tell if that person actually has an entry into the event? and what do we put into the computer so that it doesn't automatically assign that person's time to someone else? And how do you keep track of who's x-runs they are (we do put the x-run class times at the end of the class results)

This is not about the radio people, it is about making the computer operator's job easier and therefore the auditor's job easier, which in turn results in faster audited results being posted.

I keep meaning to get new numbers made. Who are the cool people making vinyl numbers now?

Otherwise I keep using blue tape, so apologies for that.

I think Jayson Woodruff is pretty cool ... when it comes to numbers. :D He's fast and inexpensive ... and does Vinyl.

Just a friendly reminder. I think it has gotten better, but I have seen a couple of really bad ones recently.
My favs at the last event were the blue cars with blue tape numbers and the one id...er...competitor with the white car and white masking tape class letters...

Seriously, more than half of the timing delays and issues we've had, at the last 3 events I've been announcing, have been caused by poor car markings. It's really not that hard and it's not just newbs that are the problem.

it would be hard to track their x-runs (how many) if they took the numbers off.
I do x-runs to try to improve my driving (since my autox time is limited and I have not done a practice event in a long time), and take those runs just as serious as my competition runs, so if cones are not reported on my x-runs that would really be too bad.

In my experience in the timing vehicle, cones are recorded for X-runs.

While I understand that, I'm thinking we have a pretty honorable group of folks, most unlikely to cheat. Especially if they get caught. If the expectations of x-run behavior is discussed publicly, I doubt there would be problems. The upside is timing/scoring, radio, course workers are off the hook. And, the session sheets will be easier to read because of having far fewer entries. If the x-run folks feel the need to compete with anyone, they can see the electronic display and will get a post-it with their time. They can post their time(s) and comments on this board if they need to. Just my 2 cents.

Only takes a couple of cheaters, and we'll always have that.

We need someone in Tech who will actually not pass a car unless the numbers are done right.

I disagree, I take my x-runs serious, and want cones reported and the time properly recorded.
BTW, at one recent event I am guessing we were shot on workers because there was no one to write and hand over the post-it with the time.

What about Time Only?
Want to cut those out of the reporting too?

Timing/Scoring is not off the hook. We still have to enter something into the computer for every car that comes to the line so when a time is received it has something to match to. If you try to get everyone to ignore certain cars you are creating an exception to the norm that everyone has to trained on to ensure all logs match when you do the audit (the computer logs have to have some entry for every car that goes through the lights or the operator has to delete that entry when a car finishes). So your proposal actually creates more work for people that are often busy enough as it is. Our system is completely keyed off car numbers and class, creating something to work around that is not an improvement.

I stand corrected. Obviously, it's more complicated than I thought.
