Leon- Watching the RS work the slalom practice really highlighted the disadvantage to our little civies. She's driving great just to stay on the same side of the international dateline. Imagine if we took all the girl to a rallycross though.... Order would be different for sure.

I'll take Karen out for a nice dinner for sharing those hours out on course. We did want to do our little bit towards helping out our CSCC Contingency at Nationals!

Thanks to Karen too! I would like to help with dinner costs.

Lot's of Kat video's later ...

Kat showed up on Sat. morning with her new Dunlop Z-1's ... that were clearly going to rub in back when she ran. When I mentioned this to her, she got upset that she wouldn't be able to run. A phone call got Leon out of bed and out to El Toro to do an emergency fender roll ... which got Kat going = :gpower:

Karen was trying hard on Saturday to catch me ... she spun twice pushing it. Leon went for an instructional run with her and in a couple of lap Karen had beat my time. On my last run on Saturday, I only got back even with her. And of course on Sunday she beat me! I think I was overdoing the Tight is Right at the Hairpin and bogging down instead of a longer faster sweep out of there. :barf:

That's still my biggest problem ... not recognizing when to do what. I came up with a game plan ... even consulted with a couple of Champs, ie. Tight Is Right ... but didn't apply low power common sense.

Mako, Thanks for the videos.

They are very helpful to evaluate the car and the drivers.

It was a very sad autocross day for me. I got beat by a girl driving a yellow BMW.

FYI, that was me driving Heinitz car in X runs... wouldn't want anyone to think he was actually that sloppy. ;)

This thing gets worse by the hour.

Got beat by three other girls, one of them driving a Silver Mazda (PAX), the usual one with the White Evo, and the other driving a BMW 318, a 140Hp 1.8 ???

This is not sad, it is devastating.

Thing to do:

1) Don't accept invitations to go out from the Grivas guy. First, he gets two drinks, but he won't stop the other guy to keep getting more until bartenders refuse to serve anymore. Then, he reminds you there is an autocross in a few hours, when you're physically few hours away to get to the autocross from the bar.
2) Don't accept invitations to co-drive with the Grivas guy. He weighs 120 lbs, the SCCA doesn't have rules for minimum weight in ASP, he makes you feel at disadvantage, and the timer shows it.
3) Sleep more than 2 hours a day, especially the day before an autocross.
4) Walk the course sneaking around the men behind these girls, whatever these gals are doing, these guys are doing better.

Thank you Mako and Karen! There's a little somethin' in your Paypal inbox...

These are hugely useful *and* entertaining. I forwarded the links to my brothers and some other friends. My brother John showed clips to most of the people at the shop, who've either been working on the car, checking out the work *we've* been doing on the car, or generally tolerating me and my sorry car invading their space for the past six weeks (motor swap, suspension work, body and paint, etc all add up!)

Very cool stuff. Anyone else notice how the high framerate shots reveal car movement quite similar to that seen in the the high framerate F1 clips?

Mike

Thanks Mike!

I think my eyes are deceiving me here, but it looks like I'm lifting my inside rear wheel in the tight right hander before the slalom!

the difference in roll between left/right is amazing. is it lifting the right front tire at 1:09 or is that launching off a bump?

Check out how much your entire chassis moves at that same time. You're launching off the bump.

What does an STX RX8 do there?

Thanks!

Still got 100's of clips to go.

Unless the car is at the limit ... most are only interesting to the drivers. But the ones from our fast drivers show the rest of us what a car can really do ... and redefines how close to the cones one can get. There are numerous examples of cars just touching and wobbling cones without upsetting them. Some move a bit but stay in the box ... it looks like.

While Karen and I were out there, we pointed out to Matt ... working the slalom ... that he might want to check a cone that had gotten hit. He was in a bad mood and told Karen to mind her own work area! (and refused to check the cone ... in the videos you can see what a difference it makes if the cone is just slightly out of place in a slalom! Brian Peters says it really distracts him and upsets him if any of the cones are even slightly out of place.) In the video of the run we were commenting on, the cone is totally up in the air!

Thanks Mako! Watching the video of myself is depressing compared to the good drivers...but it certainly shows me where I could stand some serious improvement! :D (Getting within three feet of the cones would be a good start...sheesh )

That just supports/highlights lightening the driver not changing the car
