Here is an interesting update on K1 Speed:

My son is 6 years old and 50 inches tall and really badly wants to drive a
kart.

I see on the Child Birthday Party page

"Children ages 5-10 between 48" (4ft) and 58" (4ft 10in) in height can
drive our junior karts - available at K1 Speed Carlsbad, K1 Speed
Anaheim and K1 Speed Ontario" which has a minimum of 8 participants.

Is there any other way he can drive at K1 Speed?

Also, is there or will there be a similar program to the Miramar Speed
Circuit in San Diego "junior driving school" where for $50 the kids
can learn and drive?

K1 Speed:

Hi Kristoffer-
Thank you for your interest in K1 Speed. We will be getting our Junior Karts
to the Carlsbad location the end of this month. Since your son is tall
enough he can come in and do our Arrive & Drive races. Those are 14 lap
races for $20. I will hold on to your contact details and let you know once
we've established a Junior Race Class and let you know further details.

Yes, we've been there a few times, also had his 9th B-day party there. More Kid friendly than K-1. The junior karts run together, unlike Miramar. Nice facility and they regularly run discounts.

I've taken my son there a couple of times when he was 7. They were very friendly and helpful.

They even let me go on the track with at the same time. I had him follow me a couple of laps to teach him the "racing line".

But they did stress that what ever I do, DO NOT BUMP HIM!

Something about the weight difference and him flying about 20 feet in the air

We went there today for a race each and had fun (except for a section of stop-and-go traffic on the 91 freeway both ways).

Got the little electric kart running right. Pretty sweet for $30 and a little elbow grease. But boy do they learn fast. He set first eyes on it last night and got to drive it for the first time today.
