The real answer is dark current, ie, power drawn while the ignition is off.

Sorry, I had to actually do work at work and then I was in Alaska all weekend long, just now recovering...
Bob is right, it's the parasitic drain. I guess my point was going to be that a solar panel charger sounded like a more complicated solution to the problem than a battery disconect.
