Isn't part of the definition of a "sports car", is that it has to have POWER? (i.e. Chevrolet Corvette, Dodge Viper, Ford Mustang GT, Porsche 911, BMW M3, Ferrari, Lamborghini)

Old school traditional definition of sports car is, Rear wheel drive, open top, 2 seater. Almost none of them had power.. the word got more generalized with time.. but i still would never call an M3 a sports car.

From Dictionary.com:
"sports car
n. An automobile equipped for racing, especially an aerodynamically shaped one-passenger or two-passenger vehicle having a low center of gravity and steering and suspension designed for precise control at high speeds."
Sounds like my Miata to me.

People that ride motorcycles shouldn't slam Miata's (this one, anyway) as they'd get their a$$ kicked by them on a mtn. road!

You wouldn't have
a chance, TM(tm) against my car on an off/on ramp/cloverleaf. Period.

ok i figured it out...
Bills car needs a 6speed trans that he drives all the time in 3rd gear with the standard 6sp final drive ratio to give a top speed of 79mph at 7500rpm. combine that with a 1.8l turbo motor with a turbo sized to spool at ~3000rpm so that you're in boost by 30mph in 3rd with 2nd available if you're really going slow. with the stock 9.5:1 pistons and c16 that shouldn't be too much to ask. with out running any numbers i'd guess a gt28 or 16g should get 'er done, to the tune of roughly 280-300whp. the car would have to weigh 2240 so you'd have to add 200 or so lbs in the trunk giving you a near perfect RWD weight distribution of 45/55 f/r. Slap a good sized wing on the back for good measure.....
hey how much do miata's cost? :heyes:

2240 and 290whp in a sporty little package.
That could get me thinking about a miata... If I didn't paint it teal, it would be only slightly more gay than my current car.
One of my proudest memories was riding with my dad on a canyon road back in the early 70's. A motorcycle flew up on us and started tailgaiting and generally being a jerk. Dad downshifted and took off. He blasted through that canyon in perfect tarmac rally drifts. It was amazing. The motorcycle laid it down following us. We turned around and loaded up the guy and took him to the hospital. It was easy to lay him out in the bed of the pickup... A 67 D200 big block dodge long bed with 1-ton rear end and springs.
Of course, I hope my little brothers don't read this.... Dad would be horrified to have them find out he ever did something that dangerous on open roads (and with a 5yo in tow).
With the right driver, you don't necessarily need a "sporting" car to go fast.

KEEP smokin' whatever it is your smokin because when you wakeup and realize all you see is my tailpipes merging onto the fwy from the on-ramp you'll realize that "RESISTANCE IS FUTILE".
Besides...heading into a cloverleaf I'd outbrake you, you'd somewhat catchup then coming out of the cloverleaf, I'd squeeze the throttle and you'd wobble in my turbulence.
Go back to "catching predators" on camera for NBC

THAT'S why BMW's are so fast - they weigh less than they do!

Mustang GT. GT stands for Grand Touring, which is what most of the cars you've mentioned are. Except for the M3. That's what it might have been before all the marketing department driven iterations. By your definition, the Elise isn't a sports car and it will certainly be faster on an autocross course than an M3!

And the Exige S? You don't want that match up. :mrt:

I do think that a 13b powered Miata could be very fast and competitive in SM2, with the only drawback being not enough tire compared with the McKee-mobile.

I
specifically avoided throwing in the Lotus (in any iteration) or the "wannabe Lotus" (Tesla). That car is literally a
paperweight with wheels and a motor. Slap some V710s and it's hard to beat.

i'd say the main drawback of a 13b in a miata for SM2 would be that it doesn't meet the rules. ;)
word on the street is you have to clearance the front subframe to fit the 13b which is a no-no in SM. would be sweet though.
