I've never heard of that bearing issue with those models? AX'ed Suby's of course use up their front bearings ... more so with the smaller 100 mm hubs vs the newer 114 mm hubs. Once they go it's best to replace them with bearing that have the oem grease flushed out and replaced with high temperature racing grease.
The early '09 WRX's had a LOT of engine issues. A large batch of engines apparently ended up with machining debris left in them which resulted in engines seizing with as few as 300 miles on them!
!!! 178 page thread on that engine issue !!! http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthr ... ?t=1648372
Pete's '08 STI not only had that issue but also suffered a melted piston ... everything covered by SOA warranties both times.
Suby engines respond very well to after market tuning. No only power-wise but drivability and responsiveness.

My parents own a pair of Legacy Outback H6 wagons. Both have had rear wheel bearings replaced. Three times on one of the cars. Subaru even extended the warranty on that part to 100,000 miles. The Forester apparently has the same problem.

At least wheel bearings are relatively cheap. I know all about the crappy head gaskets. By recent, I'm thinking '09-10. '99 was a bad year for ATs. The Q is less than 90 miles from where I live in Corona, which is why I've run there.
