That's what I thought ... but a lot of folks seems to be telling me ... pull off anything that creates back pressure to get more HP, now.

I'm a believer that in most cases an engine will make more peak power from removing the muffler, but....

The more unrestricted the exhaust is (in your case header with no cat), the more sensitive the motor will be to removing the muffler. If its got a full length exhaust (muffler is at the rear), then it will be less sensitive to removal than it would be with a very short exhaust. Its most likely going to be okay removing it. But why chance it? I'd rather try the change on a dyno logging AFR's.
