Rick,
I need to ask a favor. I have a close buddy who I have been trying to get out to autocross. He has just lost a very close friend/significant other to cancer. He has decided as therapy to come out and hang with me Saturday, I told him I would take him out and maybe get him some rides. If he likes what he see's I would like to split my runs with him. I don't mind picking up extra cost. Just wondering if it would be ok for him to drive. I know we have to get him a temp SCCA and perhaps a second driver fee.

Thanks

I'm not sure what the motivation behind this rule is, but GRA seems to do it every year. I think directing your request to Navis O. or Brian C. may be your best bet. Rick is awesome, but I don't think even he can change GRA policy.

Art, I have nothing to do with running the GRA event, I just handle the MotorsportReg setup using the info they provide. Their general thing is not to allow split entries for their practices, but I suggest contacting Navis offline about your request.

Its not Rick, its Navis and Brian C. GRA traditionally is not flexible and doesn't allow sharing entries.

Hopefully, my jabbing them will inspire them to prove me wrong. As a region, I'd like to think we'd do whatever we could to help lift somebodies spirits. I came out and and ran a local event the day after my mothers funeral (she was killed by a drunk driver). It was my first real competitive win in a tough class, everybody supported me and helped. It was one of the most special days of my life. I'm indebted to the region for that kind of encouragement.

The reason we don't allow split entries is because of our format. The car is not entered, but the person is. Each entrant receives a colored wristband when they check in, which determines their work group and their grid lane. They can run any car that has been tech inspected for the event, always using their color grid lane, taking one run per cycle. This way they can try out different cars during the day. If we had shared entries, it would be difficult to stop them from each putting a different car in the same grid lane on the same cycle (as if they were 2 separate entries) and taking away time from all the other entrants, while paying for only one entry. There are many positives to our format, and only the one negative, no shared entries. Another positive is that two people sharing the same car both get the maximum number of runs by each choosing a different colored wristband/grid lane.

Thanks,

Navis, I can dig that, just asked because it's been done before. However since there seems to opening, what is the chance if in fact he can make it out, we could add him to the driver list. I don't mind picking up the fee.

Speaking of temporary SCCA membership for the event...

Post by Tal Allweil »

How much IS the temporary membership? Looked around on the solo2.com site as well as the SCCA and didn't see it. Want to get my girlfriend out to an autocross event to build up her driving confidence, but she doesn't have membership. I also need to get some, as I haven't done any practice/competitive events in quite some time.

Thanks,

$15 will get you a weekend membership which will cover you for both Saturday and Sunday (if you come to both). That $15 can then later be applied to a year long membership if you choose to get one.

Hello,

Unfortunately, I will no longer be able to attend the practice event on Saturday. Please dispose of my check and give my spot to the next person on the wait-list. Thanks!
