I'm thinking in the $400-$500 range. At some point I'd be buying features I'd never use or take advantage of.

it is definitely more than you're asking for though. The problem with your price range is that those are really high-end netbook prices, and really low end laptop prices. If you can justify the funds for the Lenovo though, it's a pretty powerful laptop that'll be able to run video (and process them, if need be). it's got all the capabilities of a desktop computer, just a smaller hard drive and screen.
